I just heard 105.9 WXDX play "Paradise City" by Guns N Roses. Since when is Guns N Roses considered alternative or modern rock? I have never heard them play this band before. Are other alternative/modern rock stations beginning to mix older rock bands into their playlists and is 105.9 playing other bands like this one? It seems to me that GNR would be something that WDVE would play.

Since I live about 100 miles from Pittsburgh, I do not get to listen to Pittsburgh radio very often, only when DXing allows it, so it is possible I may not have noticed any changes that might have been made to the WXDX format.

According to yes.com, the song played at 12:37 am Saturday/Sunday.

Grimm has "9 from the '90s" right after Alax Cox in the mornings. You can usually find a good set of alt/mod rock favorites.

The X and K-Rock tied for 11th in the last Arb Spring P1. To me, if there was a difference in the stations, the X plays more obscure bands more often, K-Rock doesn't stray too far from the nationally known acts.

Au contrare.....you're probably more aware than the average Pittsburgh radio listener.

According to RADIO people, Guns N Roses is NOT alternative. According to rock MUSICIANS, Guns N Roses was a progenitor/precursor to the alternative rock movement. G N R was considered a "root influence" of alternative, just as Iggy Pop's stuff from the early 70's was a precursor to the late 70's punk movement.

So, maybe it was someone who knew about music who made that decision, instead of someone who knew about radio.

Question: How does Alan Cox sound these days? can we be honest and just not bash? I like the guy's act and wonder how he csounds since switching to mornings.

I have been hearing GnR on the two "Alternative" stations here in Orlando as well.
Paradise City and November Rain to be exact. In a way it kinda fits with the shift toward metal that alternative radio has taken. But I'd still rather not hear it on an Alt station.

In this case I'm sure you're right since Greg Gillispie and Gene Romano are both in the building, but by the same token if they already knew that the song did well among the "X people" in DVE's tests, it's really just a matter of reading a computer printout.<P ID="signature">______________
