WXIA 11PM News after Leno

Very interesting change. Leno introduced the promo at about 10:47 or so. "And now find out what is coming up on your local news right now." and went immediately to the promo. The programming went to 10:59 or a few seconds after with no commercial. Leno had no real closing credits and simply said, "Your local news begins right now." Cut immediately to 11 Alive News with no intro and two minutes of fast paced news. The pace seem to slow down after the first couple of minutes. BAsically, they are not even giving the viewer time to pick up the remote. I only need a five second station ID or promo to pick up the remote and change the channel. This new format does not even give me time to reach for the remote. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out in the ratings.

I guess you watch a different channel for your news,
but the idea is to keep you from hitting the remote
and staying with your local NBC affiliate (WXIA or, in
my case, WNCN)...hopefully right into Conan.

I liked how Leno ended with Headlines and the Chinese restaurant named House Of Poon. I wonder how many NBC stations went from that to leading off with a tragic, brutal crime at 11?!

I thought the whole newscast was fast-paced for 11Alive. And the over-emphasis on being Your Stimulus Station felt like they were trying too hard to be WGCL. It was the opposite of what 11Alive news usually produces.

They focused so much on telling us that they would be tracking stimulus spending and results that I got a good laugh when someone (Ted or one the reporters) asked if the viewers even care about it.

Then at the end of the newscast Ted said 11Alive wants to know what the viewers think about what they're doing.

It all reminded me of that line from Groucho Marx: "Those are my principles, and if you don't like them… well, I have others.”

Our number one mission at 11Alive is tracking stimulus spending, unless viewers don't care. In which case, we can find another top mission.

I couldn't bring myself to watch them tonight, with their special reports on 'sexting'.

I watched again tonight. The breathless, forced pace of the first two minutes of 11 Alive News does not work. It just comes off as irratating. The weather guy was trying to talk fast and kept stumbling over his words.

Jay Leno said "Your local news starts now." as he pointed at his watch and 11 Alive immediately cut in. It is the best transition to local news in the business. Excellent way to keep me from changing the channel.
