WXIA Labor Dispute

I understand yesterday there were a couple of WXIA employees who put up a banner on Peachtree Street in front of the WSB studios (WXIA's studios are right behind WSB's) saying "Shame on WXIA/Gannett" and "Labor dispute".

This may have something to do with WXIA planning on hiring backpack videojournalists to replace seperate reporters and cameramen.

I wonder if a union is being talked about.

I use to work at a station that had "backpack videojournalists" for it's bureau... it was a nightmare! Either they knew how to shot but didn't know how to report, or they knew how to report, but didn't know how to shot.

You would not believe the amount of BLUE video that I've seen because of BJ VJs.

So, I can understand them, if they were protesting the BJ VJs, because, yeah, you save money, but there is a great chance, you will sacrifice quailty. Then again, the way that television is going now adays, no one really cares about quailty.

That exact wording is used in Utah by the construction unions, as a way of drawing attention to any entity (the owners, or not) who has non-union employees on the site.
They usually picket the most name-worthy tenent in a building, even if the work is done for some other business.

This time, it was for WXIA, but not for the Peachtree property. This labor union was picketing some dispute going on with the construction at the Monroe site (current WATL, future WXIA/WATL facility).

The IBEW represents the engineering/operations technicians at WXIA, but I really don't know how much organizing there is anymore. It would be nice to see some unions flexing some muscle around here in other places, instead of with just the airlines and telephone companies.
