WXIA - Republican Bias (again)?

Last time...it was a website section on the Republican Party without one for the Democratic Party.

Now...WXIA has sent a reporter (Jon Sherik) to St. Paul for the Republican National Convention...after they sent NO ONE to the Democratic Convention.

Does this say Republican bias? Sounds like it to me. To send a repoter to one but not the other spells bias. WSB-TV sent two reporters each to both conventions, and Fox O&O WAGA (who is owned by people with huge personal Republican biases) sent a reporter to both conventions.

If WXIA could not afford to send one to both...they should not have sent anyone to either.

I don't know if Gannett is Republican-biased, but I do
know that the founder of the company, Frank Gannett,
was an outspoken critic of FDR and the New Deal. Perhaps
that bias has carried over, although I don't see any evidence
of bias one way or the other on my local Gannett station,
WFMY.

More than likely Gannett is pooling resources together for cost reasons. Their big 4 NBC affiliates (WXIA, KUSA, KARE, KPNX) were the ones that went to the Olympics. I suspect they are doing the same thing with the two conventions (some stations going to one, some to the other).

There is no overt bias over the WXIA/WATL airwaves. The two actions I mentioned give an appearance of it. I also don't know the views of the current manangement (the current CEO, Greg DuBrow, was GM of WXIA from 1992-1996 and oversaw a major top-to-bottom overhaul of the station in 1994).

You know what? If there is bias on the part of WXIA... so what! I have been watching all of the coverage- ABC, NBC, Fox, CNN, MSNBC, CBS- and outside of Fox, which has been balanced, the others have praised the Democrats and blasted the Republicans. I'm so done with opionated news. That's not journalism. Even though Obama has said that the preganancy of Palin's daughter is a non issue and should not be discussed, it has been harped on by all the networks, including Fox.

Is the election over yet? ;D

I don't think it's bias but business. I believe Gannett owns a station in Denver the probably pooled for all their markets that wanted it while the markets had to fend for themselves in Minneapolis.

Gannett does own the NBC affiliate in Denver (KUSA 9)plus they do also own the NBC in Minneapolis-St. Paul (KARE 11).

Jon wasn't reporting for WXIA. He was reporting for other Gannett Stations as part of a pool agreement.
