This was announced two years ago right after the WATL acquisition, but I did not know about it until now. WXIA and WATL are moving to the old WATL studios at One Monroe Drive. This will end 40+ years being in the shadow of the studios of WSB-TV/Radio. They are suppost to be operational in September, after the Olympics.
At the time this was announced (September 2006), WXIA just poured out a bunch of money to go HD with their news. The HD conversion was done a couple of months prior to Tribune announcing they wanted to unload some stations (and Gannett quickly snapping up WATL), so we can't accuse them of throwing money down the toilet. Apparently, there is more land (5 acres) at the Monroe Drive site then they have where they are now behind the WSB studios. The current WXIA studios were built in the early 1980's, so the building is not that old.
I wonder who will get the West Peachtree site (if it has not been sold already).
