WXIA Weekend Morning News Changes

Starting this weekend, WXIA is moving the morning newscasts on both Saturday and Sunday to 9 AM. They will also be reduced to an hour. The Today show will air live for the first time in Atlanta on both days.

Sounds like a good idea. Nobody has realized that people actually like to sleep in on weekends.

I also wonder if NBC put pressure on WXIA to clear Today live?

A little amateur sleuthing shows that Valerie Hoff will be anchoring the weekend morning shows. Her twitter account says that she will no longer anchor at 6 and 11 on weekends:

Questions:

What happens to Jennifer Leslie?

What happens to Keith Whitney? Does he get bumped? Anchor solo?

I guess we'll have to wait and see...

That's interesting. It's amazing that Atlanta had three morning shows competing at 6 on Saturday and Sunday mornings, when maybe a few thousand people are watching at all (only early risers, maybe people who stayed out late, sports teams).

Channel 2 and 5 still have morning shows, and they do well.
