WXJK Farmville "The X" Going Silent

Filed today is an STA to go silent. Very painful for listeners of this unique "Blues - Classic Rock" outlet. Here's the narrative:

"Silent STA Request David Layne WXJK(FM), Farmville, VA Facility ID Number 15825 Suspension of Operations Notification and Request for Silent STA "

"On July 16, 2026, David Layne, licensee of FM radio station WXJK(FM), Farmville, Virginia (Facility ID No. 15825) (the “Station”) will take the Station silent. Mr. Layne is actively exploring all available options to try and preserve the Station’s signal, including via potential sale. Accordingly, the licensee respectfully requests silent authority for a period of six months to allow time to attempt to develop a path forward for the Station."

------------

I accidently discovered this station while driving through Rural Virginia many years ago. My listening ears were blown away by the diverse selection, a true music education. Darn it! I know other radio zealots enjoyed 101.3 over the years.

The audio has been at

It had a hum and was low bitrate (32 kbps, mono) but still worthwhile.

I wish David Layne all the best.

"A Different KAHND of radio." The preaching at 5PM is also a unique feature. The stream is still active as I type this.

I figured someone might buy the station and flip it to AC after K-Love bought WFLO-FM a few years back.

Re: preaching, haven't heard who/what as of yet, but said is good ministry and business. I know of a preacher back home, who's pastored the same church and been on the same station and I believe the same time slot, since 1963, through three format changes and a multitude of ownership changes and policies therein, even in their steady format which they've had for almost sixty years. You treat a preacher right and he'll stay with you for ever or until the rapture. Although most secular stations frown on preachers/churches/ministries getting broadcasts, it still is good bread and butter for said stations and it is not preaching to the choir, in most cases, so to speak.
