WXJO-Douglasville

Looks like WXJO has moved from Gordon, Ga to Douglasville with an oldie format. At 1000 watts the signal if horrifying in western Dekalb.

Wonder what the purpose of this was for?

Mike Roberts was running WXJO-AM as a Macon-market station playing gospel. About a year ago, he sold it to some people. I thought he told me that the new owners were moving it to Smyrna, but maybe it's Douglasville. I wasn't aware it was on the air.

It sounds like a 100 watt, I can pick up 1230 in Marietta better. I am in Virginia Highland, do you think that this is a replacement for the proposed 890 from Lithia Springs?

No, this is not a replacement for the Lithia Springs movin. Originally, the 1120 move was going to Smyrna, 10kW DA-day only. I think they had issues finding a suitable tower site, and ended up moving to D-ville. 1KW day. remains to be seen if they try to increase the power

Douglasville is much further from the Va Highlands than Marietta. Have a loot at radio-locator.com and compare the tower location of WFOM compared to WXJO.

This is another move-in orchestrated by consultants Bill Brown and Gil Moor - the guys who moved 1690 to Atlanta and did the Air America format.
The station was originally going to be in Smyrna, with 10,000 watts. Douglasville became a cheaper option - the station had to be built or they would have FCC issues.
They have been on the air since late July. The audio sounds ratty and is not very loud - it doesn't sound like they have any modern audio processing- and they are playing a loop of some pretty bad music, technically and artistically.
I would suppose this one is for sale just like 1690....and I also assume it can still be moved to Smyrna with 10,000 watts - may be directional....I'm not sure. It is daytime only so I doubt any really big money will be paid for this one but you never know.

I also found this station last week. Audio wasnt that bad, and music was great.. But then TOM and some who know me, understand.. I love AM radio.. The calls leave a lot to be desired.. WXJO.. YUK

Agree-But I am just curious what is the purpose of this station? The signal is terrible even with 1000kw. It sounds more like 100 watts.

I live in Douglasville and it sounds great there! The music has been greatly expanded and new audio processing has been installed. The station sounds dramatically better than it did at sign on.
As for "it sounds like 100 watts"......I'm not really sure what you are comparing the signal to. It seems to do OK to me.
