WXKT 103.7 is stunting......

With the flipping of the popular Georgia 105 to country (before going silent) and Magic 102.9 flipping to talk, I would guess AC. It's the only good opening in northeast Georgia. The talk on 103.7 was too similar to 95.5 and both sticks are in Hall County. I guess we should've expected this?

WXKT always had a really thin spot load (lots of station promos and PSAs) outside of drivetime. Probably a hard sell for Cox vs. legacy WDUN AM/FM and AM 750 and NOW 95.5 FM WSB, particularly with the 95.5 tower being near Chateau Elan...right in the middle of 103.7's coverage area.

They probably also waited for UGA football season to be over (not sure who gets to carry the bowl game; does someone else other than the UGA network own the rights for the PBP of the UGA bowl game?). I always thought that 103.7 AND 95.5 AND 106.1 (all Cox) carrying UGA sports was horribly redundant.

I don't think the format is going to be AC or country...too much overlap with sisters B98.5 (which still gets out that far) and WNGC. Could Cox go urban AC or CHR/R since there would be little overlap with Kiss or Wild? What about Spanish (little overlap with Patron, lots of Latinos in the area, maybe give it a go against La Raza)?

Sportstalk might be interesting...maybe a simul of 960 WRFC? Especially since there's a big hole there with WCNN's and WQXI's night nulls. Some competition with WGGA The Ticket 1230, but not so much at night. High school football Friday nights, anyone?

Does anyone remember the last time "Wild Thing" was looped and used to stunt in the Atlanta market?

Hint: It caused a distraught senior citizen to call the police to see what was going at her long time favorite radio station.

I do remember that. It started on a Saturday evening in October, 1999. Then came..."Atlanta's New #1 Hit Music Station."

You win the prize sir! And it was at the end of a UGA game if I remember correctly.

It is still wild to think about how multiple transactions over the years brought together 95.5 and 1340 (Athens) and 97.1 and 960 (Athens) sisters again.

Meanwhile, I speculate about the new 103.7 format from my office which sits across the hall from the first 103.7 transmitter room in Royston, GA.

Only radio!

I'd say sports would be a good option. They have a ton of talent and a great presentation on WRFC. It sure would sound big on an FM! How about back to a rock format? 103.7, when in Athens, always did well up toward the mountains with the mainstream rock attempt (of their several rock flavors tried). If you take Cox Athens-Gainesville as a whole, you have: AC, CHR, Country, News/Talk, Sports... rock is the last of the untapped mainstream formats.

97.1 The River has the Rock game covered very well in that area (along with help from Rock 101 in Greenville) if it was up to me, WRFC 960AM & FM 103.7

Agreed. If they did rock, it would have to be newer rock (and not alt, either), not classic rock competing with River. But then they would be competing with Project and Rock 101.

I'm thinking some kind of sports format considering that they have all that UGA PBP in the stunting...and, yes, "Wild Thing" was the stunt for flipping 95.5 from country to CHR.

Wouldn't that be WRFC 960AM and NOW 103.7FM? :D ;D

WXKT had one goal: to complicate WDUN. It was the worst kind of "warehousing" of a signal IMO.

agreed. i imagine martha zoller is wishing she had stayed at "the top of the hill" on thompson bridge rd.

who is doing the station id / redirect to wsb? i think i know her, wasn't she at wdun too?

I think that with WDUN's new FM signal that 103.7 definitely had no chance. I did enjoy waking up with Tim Bryant. They only had 4100 watts of power. What I think is that since Georgia Mason Dixon is retiring and the Afternoon Show is likely canceled, that Savage could join the WDUN lineup.

My New Format Prediction------
Right now, they are airing the message to switch to WSB and then it says some thing like "WXKT will be [static]" and then they go to "Wild Thing" (was that what they played when groove became wild?). I think that possibly at midnight they might answer the static. With them airing the Bulldogs highlights, they must be staying with them as Football, M BBall, W BBall and Baseball.......which would be a simulcast of Athen's 960 The Ref. Another format possibility would be oldies. There is not a real 50s, 60s and 70s station in NW Georgia.

That would be Robin Reece, their now former afternoon News Break Anchor

that's not who i was thinking of, unless reece is an air-name. but i can't remember the person's name i meant. i'm probably wrong, but i thought she was a former production director at jacobs.

I'm still guessing AC, but don't know if it will lean more toward Hot AC or take the older leaning approach of the once popular Georgia 105? It is an older listening area. A Hot AC could sell very well in an area filled with Country, pay to preach and conservative News-Talk though. It's safer than a CHR in a older market. Atlanta isn't a sports town and northeast Georgia only really cares about UGA football. In this area, it seems like half the signals have the game on FM. In the mountains you find the strongest signal. It seems like a waste to me to go all sports. Just my opinion though. The stunting does sound like a sports format, but it is only stunting. Remember the stunting for 107.9 going Alternative. 101.9 is back and stronger with Regional Mexican near their tower site, so I don't think a Spanish format is planned. It would also compete with two other FM Spanish signals in Hall County. If it goes AC, Cox is selling it in Northeast GA, so it won't compete with B 98.5 where it counts. If its Hot AC the two won't compete at all. If it was me, I would go AC and Bulldogs sports. It's good listen at work music in the stores, restaurants, offices and touristy places in the mountains. I think it would sell very well.

Personally, I really liked the old Bulldog 103.7 from around 2005-2007 that leaned AAA. After that, they started throwing in classic rock, and I tuned out.

Cox should bring in Zoller as a guest host for Boortz, and groom her as an heir apparent now that Royal is gone (RIP).

But if Zoller runs for office it's all moot (assuming she wins).
