WXKW 1600 format history.

Hey Guys:

I was wondering if anybody can help me out with this question.

What was the format history of the short lived WXKW 1600. I know it went on air in 1961 and left the air (due to a fire) in 1966. I also know they had many formats including R&B.

Thanks for your help!!

T.J.

FYI - much of the Wikipedia info is inaccurate, especially regarding TV: WROW was owned by Lowell Thomas and eventually brought Channel 41 on the air as WROW-TV. When ownership changed hands, WROW became WCDA along with sister stations WCDB (29) and WCDC (19) which originally was ABC affiliate WMGT (19) on Mt. Greylock.

WXKW was best known in its R&B incarnation under Pee Wee Harris. It had to be off the air at sunset. Ratings and PR built up over summertime quickly faded in the dark winter months.

I know Wikipedia has A LOT of mistakes in it, but they were very close with XKW. The Pee Wee days, really didn't last that long. Pee Wee Harris was still on WABY every weekend, doing the soul show. What I can remember (which really isn't too much) about WXKW, was the format of the month club. Country (& WESTERN), top 40, a middle of the road type. I always thought it was a strange little station.
