Bart Prater was on K92 from 1981 til late 1988. He took over for "Cosmic" John Barry when K92 was dominant in the Roanoke ratings. Following the departure of PD Russ Brown and the arrival of Jan Jeffries, Bart decided he had had enough of the daily radio rat race and the way the industry was turning. He and Fred Palmer (from WROV days) opened an ad agency in Roanoke called Prater/Palmer. The advertising community failed to embrace their comedic wit. Following that, he moved on to the Director of Computer Operations post at WVTF Public Radio in Roanoke where he currently resides and hosts a Saturday evening show with fellow WROV alumni Larry Bly. Check it out Saturday evenings on the stream at their website at www.wvtf.org. Lots of info and audio about Bart is available at www.wrovhistory.com, a tribute site to the AM station he programmed through most of the seventies before going to K92.

His son Jay, a second generation broadcaster, is currently programming mainstream rocker 100.5 MAX-FM in Hampton Roads.
