From late 1975 recorded ota on 7in reel there is noticeable graininess due to oxide shed (RCA tape) and the fact that I used low bias current to permit good response at 3 3/4 ips. However it clears up well after a few minutes. Again, you'll notice wider stereo than is normal today.

I'am also including this brief clip from December 1974 to show how the station had decompressed in the intervening months. As much of a processing fan as I am, the 1974 airsound of 99X was tiresome, literally zero s/n ratio, everything smashed through a meatgrinder. Listening on Koss phones it was "something", I guess better suited to the kiddies with cheap stereos that the station was aimed at.
