WXLW now?

They were on the TV news after the recent Colts victory fielding calls from listeners. I'd say they did return.

Now that they fixed their transmitter problems can they fix their lack of air talent? I work downtown all day and my only two choices are XLW or NDE. Thats really sad. Why can't Indy act like a real sports city and get a real sports station with real air talent? Work days would go by so much quicker.

They should hire me... Asst. AD at a University, Referree, Teacher, 30 year radio vet and play-by-play guy... I love Indy... Get some 'guts' Indy Sports radio and get real sports people doing local things on 950 or 1260..

yes they should. Site unseen (unheard).

the problem is, they need to hire BROADCASTERS who know how to entertain. Talking sports can be the most boring thing in the world to hear - unless there is some entertainment. When will these yahoos figure out talking nuts and bolts of LOCAL sports is NOT entertaining. Especially when a majority of the time, the hosts are prepubescent/green out of college (therefore INEXPENSIVE) with no historical perspective.

No Skipper - they should hire ME! I'm a nobody, and I can be as awful on the air as anyone!

Radio Ho:

I was enjoying The Heard today when all of a sudden they bust in with the Ron Hunter Show! Middle of the day! Are you kidding me? I think I actually heard the six other radios in the city that had them on being turned. It's like they are begging for people not to listen. Not to mention that no talent Rakestraw that is on the every 37 seconds. Why is that guy ever on? EVER?

So wannab - YOU were the ONE listening when they switched from The Heard to The Hunter Show? I expected them to kick into the Golf Show - 4!

By dealing with Da'Debil! At least WIBC is finding a sports person for the morning show that can do more than read scores and banter on the 'gritty' of sports: local, regional and national....

But are you willing to work for a salary $1400 per month? Many will.

what is the position at WIBC for the morning sports guy likely to pay? anyone have an idea?

Is Oakland City REALLY a University? I know they changed the name but ....

Math problem :

Jonathon makes $10,000 a month at his business.

Jonathon didn't ralize he needed a tower site and pays $5,000 a month to lease space for his 3 towers which are fully amortised, being built in 1959.

Jonathon has a GM who makes $5000 a month. He has air talent (?) times 3 who make $3000 a month. Plus FICA and taxes.

Jonathon has an LMA $5 grand each month on an FM with no signal and little billing.

Jonathon just bought a new transmitter. Jonathon has other expenses.

Insiders say the Byrds are bleeding to the tune of 30 grand a month.

What else is Jonathon spending money on to loose $30,000 a month?

Rakestraw may not have that long to be on the air.

How much can Jonathon loose and still operate the buffet in Greenwood?

Is the new transmitter for the Franklin station? Because without a new tower in a different location, a new XMTR won't matter. And Radio One with WHHH and Cumulus with WFMS are not going to give the okay necessary for the Franklin station to build a tower in a different location that will better reach Indy.

As a sports talk wannabe ;D, I am an fm jock doing am radio, I invite you to check out my sports show on Sunday Night on WXNT from 6-9pm. It is vastly different than JMV or Rake. A little more opinion based, a little less phone intensive. Those guys are good at what they do best, I am good at what I do best...brutal honesty without having to hide behind the fact that my station airs the Pacers, or Purdue, etc.....Honestly, sometimes callers bring an "opinion" based show down unless they are really good. Just throwing that out there. IF IT SUCKS, IF YOU LIKE IT,..let me know. Thanks

Rakestraw is an absolute joke. The guys that read the updates are better than him. It's really sad that a guy like that is allowed to waste a perfectly ok AM frequency. Sports in this market is there for the taking. Even though they have signal issues, XLW could certainly still run all over 1260. How many times does 950 have to finish last in the ratings for Byrd to see what a joke that guy is and how he has no clue how to run a station, call a game or host a show?

Wait. It will get worse once Indians baeball begins with Howard Kellman. Howard makes Rakestraw look like a genus.

Yes, OCU is an FULLY ACCREDITED University with 2,200 students statewide in adult, rehab and traditional degrees.. The main campus has about 700 students and is recognized as one of the top schools in Elementry and Secondary Eduction in the nation (NCATE and The Learning Center, former North Central)... As our town dies, our school seems to grow... A working class school, but still private... I would stack my education there up against my other College work and degrees from the schools I have attended.. For this topic TWO of the SIX IHSAA commissioners (in the IHSAA history) were OCU graduates: Phil Eskew and Gene Cato...Offering AS, BS-BA, MDiv, MSN and Doctor of Leadership, and the highly praised MAT for teacher and school administrative work.. We are blessed to have several great post-secondary schools in our area! We are one.... Jerry Reynolds of the Sacramento Kings (Management and former coach)... Gil Hodges of the Dodgers and world champ Mets... Dave Jones, consultant and former head of Gaylord Hotels and Holiday Inn... Just off the top of my head.. I am proud of our private Colleges and Universities in Indiana and the greater tri-state area (KWC, Brescia, UE and Public Universities like USI, ISU, IU and the such)...

Remember Skipper, if you're willing to work for $1400 a month salary, you can work at WXLW doing sports.

WIBC will probably offer its sports job to Rakestraw.
