WXNY's Future

If Univision exits radio, perhaps WXNY 96.3 would be sold off separately, as it has done rather poorly in the ratings with Spanish programming. Maybe EMF would be interested in buying the station and flipping it to K-Love, and putting Air1 on its less powerful 96.7 signal. That would give them adjacent dial positions for their two Christian music formats.

Whatever other considerations would be involved, finances would be doable. The WNYC Foundation is one of, if not the richest, operator in the tristate region.

Then you might also consider the sale of 105.9 as another cost reducing factor.

However, it will likely stay in commercial hands.

In a break with format, X96.3 is carrying play by play coverage (in Spanish, of course) of the World Cup matches, hosted by famous soccer commentator Andres Cantor. Oddly, station owner Univision's rival Telemundo has the TV rights, this time. It also seems a bit strange that sister station WADO AM, which is primarily devoted to sports (soccer), is not providing live coverage of the games.

AllAccess has a report today that X96.3 owner Univision, may soon be put up for sale.
Perhaps that is why no significant changes in the low-rated station's programming have been made. Maybe the company feels it will be up to a future owner
 
RadioInsight is speculating that based on domain registrations, it seems possible that Cumulus Media may purchase or lease at least some of Univision's radio stations, and flip them to non-Hispanic formats. If they took over control of WXNY 96.3, what would it make sense for them to do with it? Move the Urban A/C format of WNBM from the relatively modest signal on 103.9 and go head to head with WBLS?
 
Not exactly hip hop oldies, but a more uptempo not afraid of rap all the time format on 96.3 would be interesting. Position it newer and more uptempo than WBLS, giving people an option who don't really go for all the new hip hop stuff, but want an uptempo adult urban station that plays the songs that THEY grew up with.

The station just started, a few weeks ago, a new morning show with one of the top radio talents from the Dominican Republic brought in to co-host the show.

WADO is focused on folks from the Greater Antilles, where soccer is not played.
