WXRC- Time to change?

I was looking at the ratings and it's interesting to see how WXRC (95.7 The Ride) has steadily declined from a decent 3.6 just a while back to a 2 share now. Have any changes happened on-air? I haven't tried to listen in ages.

Isn't it time for a change? With that signal, something could DEFINATELY do better. The station doesn't sound great, to me at least. Sounded voicetracked, canned, corny, and boring. The format went from a unique 60s-70s-80s mix to pretty much Classic Rock. Any ideas for 95.7? Locally-owned companies are usually more likely to stick with something than a national company so who knows if anything will be done.

I'd suggest a Classic Hits like WCBS-FM or KRTH focusing on rock/pop/soul/R&B from '64-'85. Not like the "classic hits" they're doing now....more like 94.1. Completely make over the station, relaunch, advertise, and go from there. It couldn't do any worse than now.

Thoughts?

I think Dave is right where he wants to be. Plus, does he really have the money to go head to head with the coprorations which own 90% of the market?

I don't know that a change to a 94.1 like format would do much better. The last several Triad books have shown them losing ground. WXRC has signal issues in Southeast Charlotte due to interference from WKML in Lumberton, which is also on 95.7.

I've long felt they needed to do oldies. I even wrote the station a while back, fearing Mix 106 would do exactly what they did.

I suggested a format with only familiar songs and the name 95.7 Big Ways, with those liners used on WAIZ (and those letters), which is co-owned and plays music from the early days of rock and roll. I don't even think "Big Ways" played that music. WIST was the rock and roll station back then.

Now I suppose I have little to fear about WAVO. No one would listen even if they did oldies. WEGO used to and it could be a community station again, but I guess they don't have the money.

To me they have had a change in their musical direction in the last couple of years, that I am not as crazy about... but I am not sure I fit into the demographics that they are shooting for. But for a station I have been able to count on since the days J.P. was doing mornings... me or it has changed to much for me to listen very often...

The station is paid for and it rates second behind the Fox for males 25-54.

Dave ain't changing anything. He's happy just the way things are.

Where else are you going to get music in the morning in any quantity on the FM band around here? (OK maybe 97.3 in North Wilkesboro) I heard XRC last night at my neighbor's house. Maybe the wine had an effect, but I thought they sounded pretty decent. Long sets of music, familiar stuff with some interesting "oh wow" factor tracks thrown in. Thank God we have one mom and pop station left in town.
