WXRK vs WYSP

Same company, World of difference! Down south in philly, it seems as though CBS has figured out how to be active rock with the recent additions of Pantera, and deep metallica, also around 12 noon they played Killswitch engaged - end of heartache, and Metallica seek and destroy. So why can't NYC CBS INC figure this out? Instead gay-rock seems to be stuck on the same 200 washed up songs since May. They have made little if no effort to break new artist on the air. Play crappy music, get crappy ratings. Hope to see CBS do well with YSP in the winter philly books. K-rock should follow suit of its sister station. Thoughts?

never heard of "gay" rock but assuming you're using the term in a derogotory way it could be taken as offensive.

Just a question for you "Hardrocker9" when was the last time you listened to K-Rock?

Also, is it true that WYSP is trending lower in the ratings?

First of all... Jeffy, really? You took the time to remind us somebody might be offended? K rhymes with Gay... don't put 'hate' on something so freaking simple [EDIT]

Second of all, Hardrocker has a great point. Gay-Rock is obviosly programming for people who aren't there. Sure, back in the day most of their numbers were Howard's, but they have a 1.5 12+!!! I remember when it was an insult to have a 2.0!!! They're at a 1.5!!!! And since that 1.5 came out, they've done nothing but put an English Guy and Danny on the air. I can see Danny as a plus. But I gotta say they don't know their audience. Cause I gotta think, blue collar jersey and long island guys aren't into English humps and the Red Hots singing about California every 10 mins.

Finally, WYSP isn't going to set the world on fire with Killswitch and Metallica deep cuts at noon. BUT they know their audience and are AT THE VERY LEAST acknowledging who they are trying to reel in. While Gay-Rock is just choking on its short shorts.

P.S. I am a gay Gentleman.

very very different stories. Philly is a proven rock town, they have 4 yes 4 rock stations MMR (Active),MGK (Classic),RFF (Alternative), YSP (Hard) Following the dump of FreeFM YSP sounded much like Krock for a bit, before leaning hard rock. In short the first 3 were already on the air, so YSP doesn't really have too much of a choice than to go the niche of hard rock unless they intended on going head to head with one of the other 3 (bad idea). YSP is getting better, Kidd Chris in the mornings even more focus lately no doubt and makes Krock look silly...BUT YSP would never work in NY. As I said, Philly is a rock town, they can cater to niche, Krock NY cannot. Krock needs major help, but would definitely be better suited going alternative something closer to RFF for example than YSP.

Why would you every target blue collar hums in NJ and LI. None of them have any money, they are getting squeezed on $3.50 gas, $5.00 milk, and the mortgage payment on the house they paid too much for. Blue collar is a bad demo to be involved with. The money demo in New York is young office workers with no kids living in Hoboken, Jersey City, Astoria, LI City, Greenpoint, Williamsburg, Fort Greene, BoCoCa, and Park Slope. They have no housing payment and no car payment. Unlike NJ/LI guys, this group actually has disposable income.

A funny observation I have,

If Free-FM never happened neither station would be hurting like they are now. Im sure CBS is clearly aware of that now. (BTW, does anybody know of any company that is hiring where I have stupid f***in ideas and make a fortune off it?) Anyways, the point I was trying to make, if WYSP had stayed and remained rock, they could have enjoyed the glory MMR had when PPM first came out. On the other hand, If K-Rock had stayed alternative in April 2005, it may not have scared away the niche it was finally starting to earn.

I'm sampling WYSP's playlist. Looks like a pretty lame token CBS corporate rock station. Someone described the station as "Hard Rock" ... I think not. Even during later hours, they are playing the likes of Motley Crue, Pink Floyd, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Guns N' Roses, Def Leppard (Hot AC staple "Hysteria", no less!), and almost as much Green Day and Linkin Park as K-Rock. Looks like old decrepit dino-rock and lame tired corporate rock are the order of the day at WYSP.

Equally lame: Technically 11 songs that could be considered Currents, and lame corporate hacks Linkin Park have 2 of them (Alice In Chains' "Would?" and The Offspring's "Self Esteem" were #12 and #13 on the playlist chart).

So they played Killswitch Engage's "The End Of Heartache" during a special feature. Big whoop. When they play KsE (and something besides the "Holy Diver" cover), Slipknot, Bullet For My Valentine during the regular rotation and ditch the lame trucker rock, I might be interested. But as it stands, they're no better than K-Rock. I wish they would take a step up and go edgier, with Greater Media's WMMR and WMGK providing the area with all the forklift driver rock it can handle and then some.

LOL, Trucker Rock, I like that description. In your opinion Soulcrusher what do you think K-rock should be like, more like WJJO in Madison or WAAF in Boston? I think that at on point YSP was a Hard active rocker, now they seem to be following suit. I used to be able to listen to YSP coming onto the NJT and not changing it until i lost it in northern MD, but now it seems easy to flip the dial for all the CBS so called rockers.

The playlist on WOCL/Orlando "O-Rock" was by no means a "CBS corporate rock" playlist; incidentally, they recently dropped the rock format on that station weeks ago.
