WXRP Hanceville sold

I guess they'll be repeating WRFS 1050 from Alexander City like Joy's other stations in Centre and Jasper do now.

I was wondering about that not too long ago, about whether WRFS was still programming southern gospel. I was looking up ABC radio's "Timeless Classics" format recently and found this:

Is WRFS planning a change of format to "Timeless Classics"? I can't remember WRFS ever programming adult standards.

I guess if you can't sell it, just give it away. I would have given them 10k for it, that was about all it's worth. It would probably win the award for the station with the shortest coverage area over on the DX board, about 20 miles.

I heard this station a time or two when passing through Hanceville in years past. It doesn't get out far but kept on rocking anyway.

WRFS did some nostalgia and standards type programming before going gospel. I doubt Joy Communications would drop their religious format for that again.

That's if they're lucky and your radio's good. It barely gets into Cullman. I think a lot of that is caused by poor maintenance, though. It got out fine back in the WRJL days.

WRFS was recently sold, wasnt it?

And the comment about Ralph Jolly not being able to sell WXRP isn't completely true. i was personally involved with a group who was interested in buying it, but Jolly didn't seem too interested or motivated to sell it.

The station sits on land near some housing, and he offered to sell the station and request the tower be moved.. or sell the station and the buyer had the option on up to 3 acres of land.

The station could probably add a second tower and get a sizeable power increase too, it's far enough away from WACV 1170 Montgomery and WBXR 1140 Hazel Green that if it went directional, it'd work.
