WXRT

Although it hasn't been a year yet, I'm curious to get a report card on WXRT these days. As with any new jock, it takes time to get to understand where they're coming from, the psyche of management for hiring them, and giving them time to fit in. So far, I'm enjoying the younger perspective, passion, and wide knowledge of music Jason Thomas exudes. He's no Skafish, but it took time for him to build what he became. I think Mr. Thomas will do just fine here. What does everyone think??
Remember, the only thing that is consistent in life is change. Change is good! :)

I've been bummed ever since XRT (CBS?) fired Bobby Skafish and brought in this bad out-of-town rookie DJ named Jason Thomas. Another message board says what I'm thinking: "Matt Dahl is better than Jason Thomas!" (humor in a jugular vein)

Wow I hardly ever check the Chicago board .... Yes WCR Channel 103.1 was OK nowhere as great as the old FM 101.9 (KLIT/KSCA) was from July 1, 1994- Feb 5, 1997. Actually FM 101.9 was really really good during its first year and a half or so.... Then they started the "10-song-set"s and watered down the playlist somewhat in the attempt to reach a broader audience. Didn't work as the highest book or trend they got was around a 1.1.

Channel 103.1 was a continuation of that but of course a welcome return of AAA to the SoCal airwaves. They became what 101.9 used to be when they (World Class Rock) became an Internet-only station in Sept 2000. They were ahead of their time before they left the Internet.

KCRW still has Morning Becomes Eclectic, though I usually don't have a chance to tune in.

I like Indie 103.1 (do you listen on-line or OTA?... not sure what area you live in). They are truly unique and I am glad they are still around. Many on the LA board predicted their demise years ago, especially after CCU sold them to Entravision.

Thanks to the Internet I have discovered a good variety of Internet stations as well as some good AAA/Americana-type over the air stations that also stream. Let's hope the CRB does not get their way so Internet radio will continue to exist.

Peace...

So, I'm back to visit family in Chicago and I tune into XRT on Christmas Eve to hear what I remember as the end all, be all of great music, and I hear the Eagles. THE EAGLES??? On XRT??? Bravo, CBS. Bravo. Another great memory gone.

So, one Eagles song in this mix ruins your day? And, you think some corporate mandate forced the 'XRT jock to slip it in?

5:00 PM ARCADE FIRE Keep The Car Running
5:04 PM ROLLING STONES Tumbling Dice
5:08 PM DANDY WARHOLS Little Drummer Boy
5:11 PM COUNTING CROWS Hanginaround
5:15 PM DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE I Will Follow You Into The Dark
5:19 PM SPRINGSTEEN, BRUCE Cover Me
5:23 PM WAITRESSES Christmas Wrapping
5:28 PM U2 Sweetest Thing
5:42 PM EAGLES Take It Easy
5:46 PM BAND-AID Do They Know It's Christmas
5:59 PM WHITE STRIPES Icky Thump

This argument has been breaking out for more than 30 years, and it gets more tedious by the day. As Harvey Wells used to say, " the day after XRT signed on 'it wasn't as good as it used to be.'" They've been playing the Eagles, along with a ton of interesting music, for more than 30 years and whatever their faults, they deserve to be celebrated for surviving in a major market
