I thought it was just me, too! BTW, I like the station just fine but it has caused me numerous injuries sustained while trying to frantically turn the radio off/down when the Wild Wing "underwriting announcement" comes on. :
This has been a tough summer for us, DX-wise. WXRY as a LPFM is much more effected by both WWKT and WBT, who are our co-channels. We simply don't have enough density to power through it.
I cannot speak for Lexington County, but in Northeast Columbia, we have always been a somewhat inconsistent catch, particularly in mornings and nights. But lately it has been ocurring during the day over the three or four months, which is consistent the start of the SE DX season. We are not alone, WWNU is scratchy and in mono in Northeast around the same times.
Today at Hardscrabble and Clemson, WBT was mixing with us at 1:30 in the afternoon. Yesterday, same time, WXRY was full stereo and RDS.
I will note that on a fairly consistent basis that right about 6a weekday mornings, my receiver at home drops WXRY and it gets replaced by WBT-FM Chester. Speculate as to the cause, if you wish. As we have to accept all interference, it is something we live with.
As for Wild Wing, Ralph Wimmer's delivery is a little grating to some, but there are no prices, qualitative or calls to action in the copy. Just as in This Old House that uses the Home Depot voiceover for the Home Depot credits, Wild Wing elected to have Ralph do their copy for consistency.

Ever thought about switching to another frequency that would accommodate a LPFM signal? I always found it interesting that the FCC would allow a license when there is an existing station 45 miles away. WBT and xry always collide, even in SE Newberry County and Fairfield County. Doesn't sound like an LPFM signal to me. 97.1 in Olympia carries for about 40 miles. Perhaps I misunderstand the guidelines of a LPFM, but I always thought they should serve about a 10 mile radius, max.
The figure bandied about for Double O was that they would take 5 million to exit. Whether that changes in the future depends upon them becoming cash-flow positive and the trading market improving.
At the time of our application for WXRY, 99.3 was the only frequency that satisfied all spacing conditions, with the exception of 92.1 (now not available) and 107.9 (now WLXM).
With the third adjacency requirements gone, we could possibly move to 100.7. It would be a much clearer channel, but we would then be subject to more stringent interference protections and could be taken off the air with a single complaint of interfence (whether legit or not), like a translator.
Any bets we would see a complaint? Near 100% in our calculation, especially since one of our fellow broadcasters has had Uncle Charlie inquire a couple times. Can't operate your Class A or Class C properly? Why not complain about the 100w ERP LPFM.
By the way, LPFM uses fixed distance spacing, so 10 miles is merely an estimate. Your mileage, based on antenna design and HAAT and the existing users on co-channel and adjacent channel can and will vary a great deal. I have been advocating that the Commission use coontour licensing. But that is not on the horizon yet.

Dude we of course have had the same problem at WLRE this year also. Seemed like Savanah doubled their wattage with ammount of interference they have caused this year. We lost one of our granters in Holly Hill becaused they claimed they could no longer hear the station and they have been with us for four years. We generally get reports like hay your station sounds great in Jacksonville, FL or hay I heard you in Charlotte, NC the other day but this year we haven't had any calls telling us that.
Since we are talking LPFM, I have a question that nobody I've asked has been sure of. Does Arbitron rate LPs? XRY has a great sound and the programming is solid (though I do wince during the Capital Places "It's A Happy Place" non-commercial commercials). It seems like they would show up.
Aibitron has asked WLRE several times about wanting to add us to the Orangeburg market but since Orangeburg is taged out of the Columbia market I have said no to them three times. I am not sure how they do LP stations but I know they have asked us a few times.
Colder weather helps
Hammer5: Drier, clear weather helps. Once it gets warm and humid our effective coverage shrinks because our co-channels come in over top of us. I live out that way as well and in the Fall, Winter and Early Spring I usually can monitor off-air for the good part of most days. Not stereo and not full-quieting, but acceptable on a decent stereo receiver. Clock radio? Forget it.
Dude...I keep the faith that one day you, your staff and the programming will acquire that full market station. It's either that or I need to figure a way to encompass your signal in a blanket of liquid nitrogen........Keep up, as I know you will, the great work my friend!
