WXXI'S BOB SMITH SUFFERS STROKE

Longtime talk host Bob Smith from WXXI has reportedly suffered a stroke, and a source told me it's serious. Please keep Bob (poster here as Bob1370) in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for sharing this information with all of us, Bob. I've been seeing Scott Fybush Facebook postings about the topics he's exploring on "1370 Connection," and thought Bob Smith was taking a vacation. How I wish it was that. Indeed, we will all keep a good thought and say a prayer for our friend, "Bob 1370."

That is sad news. I wish him well.

Prayers and positive thoughts for Bob, a well-respected broadcaster with many friends here. I hope we see his posts again and hear him back on WXXI-AM soon.

I heard Scott say that Bob was out with some health issues yesterday and today. I had no idea it was so serious. I wish Bob1370 a speedy recovery. We miss him on the air and on this board.

Even though Bob and I have never met I know him through his great posts. My thoughts and prayers are with you Bob.

I've been arguing, debating and discussing radio with Bob since the days of CIS in the late 80's. I miss his participation here and wish him a speedy and complete recovery.

I learned from one of Bob's colleagues at WXXI that he is now recovering. He faces a few months of rehab. if all goes well, Bob could be on the air by late summer. Hopefully, he'll be posting here again sooner than that. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Bob, for a speedy and full recovery.

Sorry to hear of Bob's unfortunate stroke. I join with all of the others here and wish him a full and speedy recovery. He's worked at market leading radio stations across upstate over the years, and and it's always good to get his perspective on the radio business that he posts here. Hopefully, we'll be hearing from him again soon.

Some friends asked me why I didn't post anything on here regarding Bob Smith since I worked with the fellow for 14 years at WXXI.

It's not because I didn't want to, but I was made aware of Bob's condition shortly after he was admitted to the hospital and was asked not to make any public comment until an "official announcement" was made. Since I haven't seen such an announcement on WXXI's web page but comments here, I've decided to add my thoughts and prayers along with the rest of you.

For those of you who never had the pleasure of knowing or working with Bob I can attest that he's one of the most decent people I personally ever met. Never, in 14 years, did I hear him say a bad word about anyone, nor lose his temper.

Mark, as always,is a class act in respecting Bob's wishes.. Just for clarification, WXXI has had a statement on the website for sometime:
1370 Connection host, Bob Smith, will be taking extended time off to manage some health issues. Bob appreciates hearing from listeners, so please feel free to send cards and notes to him in care of: WXXI, PO Box 30021, Rochester, NY 14603. We'll keep listeners updated on his progress during 1370 Connection, and here online.
Bob actually had a message that was played on the show this week thanking listeners for their support.

Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate it very much.

When I checked the WXXI web page (a while ago I admit) there was no announcement at that time. I'm glad to read that the station is posting updates on Bob.

With modern medicine and Bob's dedication to his job, I am certain that he will return to 1370 Connection in the very near future. Meanwhile prayers and good wishes continue to go out to him from all of us for a speedy recovery.
