Today, I have a treat of long-lost Upper Midwest radio from the Freeport-Rockford, IL market! WXXQ ran an automated top 40 format for many years. I don't know much about the details but it seemed like a new set of tapes showed up on the station every week or so. This version of top 40 was very much targeted toward midd...le, even small town America. The most mainstream hits mixed with some oldies by acts such as the Beatles and Player as heard on the aircheck. In the Madison area, I received an excellent signal of WXXQ with my Heathkit tuner and rotor antenna. This aircheck is from 1986.
