WXYT wants to move transmitter to Canada?

Got alerted to this on the Boston Radio boards...

http://lists.bostonradio.org/pipermail/boston-radio-interest/2009-June/020934.html

WXYT could theoretically move their AM transmitter site to Leamington, Ontario, but the only way it could happen is if CBS partnered with a Canadian broadcaster, such as Rogers, and kept a minority stake in the station to satisfy CRTC regulations on foreign ownership. The callsign would end up starting with a C as well.

With Canadian Content requirements on such a station, I would imagine the existing WXYT-FM would continue the current schedule and the AM station would have a modified schedule to meet Canadian content.

In any case I doubt it'll happen.

No way. It has to be bunk.

The current site is less than 10 years old, plus the signal patterns and whatnot, not to mention Cancon and the prohibitive laws that would force CBS to give up WXYT all make it preposterous. (If I'm correct, Canada enacted their current ownership laws so that RKO General had to sell off CKLW A/F/TV.)

Yeah, it simulcasts 97.1 on a full-time basis, but would CBS really do that?
