WYAM 105.7

Does anyone remember WYAM 105.7 (Now WQAH 105.7)? I can remember when I first heard Country on 105.7 back around February 2001, but at that time I was 11 and can't remember what the format was before Alvin Abercrombie bought the station. Was it a Hartselle station like it is now, or a Cullman station?

They started out as AC 1997 or there 'bouts. Then they went to rap, which was short lived. Then to classic country. The AC and rap was also on 890 AM. I hope it makes money for Alvin, now that his Chevy dealership is gone.

My first recollection of the station was also during the classic country stint. I don't recall where their advertising was targeted, but the signal was marginal about everywhere except around AL-157 near West Point. I do recall it and the 99.9 in Eva as never sounding very good.

was that the station with the wonderful automated computer clock that annouced the time like every 2 minutes? lol

WRJL still has the automated time. Their audio quality is better than it once was, and it is now voicetracked 24/7 outside of Sunday preaching and sermons.

WQAH's tower is about 12 miles NW of West Point atop Battleground mountain. I live about 4 miles SE of their tower near Battleground so it has an excellent signal on every FM radio. However, I'm not as much of a Bluegrass fan as I once was and not to intrested on their pre 1960's country either. I kinda wish they'd throw a satellite feed in after hours to keep the programming interesting.

I can remember way back with this station. If I recall correctly, 105.7 used to be a translator rebroadcasting WKDF when they were alternative format way back in the day. Then when they signed on as a full power they went with a dance format as "Wam 105-7". That was very short lived. They then went to a simulcast of WYAM-AM as an AC station. That was also short lived. They broke away from the simulcast and went urban as "Live 105-7". It was HORRIBLE sounding. I can remember nights where a song would skip in the same place literally all night long until someone would come in in the morning and fixed it LOL. Anyway, that was also fairly short lived (only lasted a couple of years at most), then they went to the current format as classic country and bluegrass. A smart move for the area they cover. Impressive numbers in the Huntsville market as well concidering the poor signal in Huntsville. I imagine its making some money because its been on the air now for years with that format and seems to be doing very well.

i was working in the area not long ago and decided to drive out and find the tower (it was about 2 miles out from where i was at the time) ; was surprised to find it basically behind a church - essentially on church property...
