There are three licensed back-up transmitters. One is on the main tower and two others. One of the auxlilary transmitters is located in the city. What is the reason for this?

IIRC They (Cumulus) have filed for a City of licence change to Sandy Springs. I am sure they will eventually make 106.7 an "in-town" C0 or C1 signal. Then Cumulus will have 3 of nine in-town C0 or C1's which are worth a whole lot more than a C outside of 285. If the rumors to go "news" are true, then even a strong C2 in mono in-town would work.

Yeah, there is an app to change the city of license with no facilities changes. I just find having THREE aux transmitter sites a bit odd.

Way back when...when 100.5 was in Anniston AL and wanted to move to the Atlanta metro, the application by Tom Gammon was denied, in part, because "Sandy Springs" was not a city. Has that changed? Are they a city now? Or is it still just a section of Fulton County?

The application to change its city of license must be granted before any facility changes can be applied for.

But Mableton (WPZE) isn't an incorporated city. And don't get me started about North Atlanta (WCNN), although there is a movement afoot to incorporate Brookhaven, which would encompass the old city of North Atlanta that was disincorporated in the 1960s before WRNG even took to the air. Hopefully the FCC would let WCNN change its city of license when that happens.

Why? It sure makes it simple to interview the "local" elected officials when there are none for the public file.

The backup at the Richland site has much lower wattage and height than the Flowery Branch and Loganville backups.

A change of COL with no facilities change is often the precursor of an additional move. Once 106.7 is licensed to Sandy Springs it would no longer need to put a city grade cignal over Gainesville. It could then move the stick closer to or all the way in to Atlanta, possibly downgrading from it's current Class C status. BTW, your COL does not have to be an incorporated area.... it needs to be recognized as a community. A post office often is factored into this equation, but not necessarily a deal breaker.
