WYAY's signal is a monster

Considering its stick is in Windsor and not downtown or south of the city. I was driving down I-85 the other day and heard it all the way into Auburn, Alabama before it finally started to even show signs of fading.

At 1600 feet above ground Y106 has the second best FM signal in the metro area.
WFOX, at 1700+ feet has the best.
Most Atlanta FM stations have antennae around 1000 feet above ground. The higher your antenna is located, all other things being equal, the better your signal.
WYAY shares an antenna with "The Fish" 104.7.

Don't you mean WSRV? The callsign was changed last year.

I think the WRBL-TV tower near Columbus comes in at almost 2,000 feet. Makes me wonder how nervous the engineers get climbing these things.

Also, didn't WYAY cut power for the new tower (Same with WFSH)? At whatever they are putting out, it sounds amazing.

Whenever Citadel gets ready to flip Eagle, they better have an extra good format for this station.

I don't know about YAY's power, but I remember reading that SRV is going to downgrade to a Class C0 station.

Hmm... I drive that way all the time, it usually is not that good. Usually starts fading out in south Coweta County, around the Grantville exit.

Because of terrain, co-channel WKMX Enterprise, Ala., is usually heard in the Columbus area, so I'd imagine it would impact Auburn too.

Actually, the WFSH-FM / WYAY main analog antenna is 537 meters above ground level or 1761.81 feet (see license). The WFSH-FM backup is the one further down the tower. I'm betting not many engineers climb tall towers, I for one get my lawn chair and walkie talkie out and watch the tower crew climb it :D Now if it had an elevator, I'd go up and visit the resident hawks up there...

When we put Y on the WFOX (now WSRV) tower, there was an old gent digging the septic tank lines in with his backhoe. He stopped for a break and asked the height, etc. I gave him the whole speil, and told him the guys would ride him up in the elevator if he wanted to check out the view. His response was "I made a deal with GAWD. I don't get no lower than a tater and no higher than a corn shock." And with that comment he got back on his backhoe and fired it up and finished his job. I take the same approach. I'll be glad to watch you go up.

And actually, using the same radio in the same car, the current signal goes marginally better down I 75, roughly the same on I 85 (On a good day, Auburn is the limit), and not as well due west on I 85. It suffers to the northeast anf northwest. In other words, it does about what we'd expect from the move. It's a bit higher, but the power is a bit less. And the circle moved South a bit.
