WYCD's wild success

How has WYCD done SO well in the market for the past 20 years? Downtown Hoedown? Demographics? How can they do it??? I suspected WJLB or WKQI would be at #1 because of the type of demographic climate in the area.
(By the way, when WYCD turns 20 years old on May 28, 2013, I'll turn EXACLTY 20 on that day as well. Heck, I was born about a half hour before the launch!)

For much of that time, the audience has not been fragmented. And there are plenty of Country demographics in the market as a whole. The City of Detroit is less than 20% of the market.

And a little bit less every time the sun comes up.

The only game in town for Country, a pretty popular format and competition for every other format.

WNIC had similiar success when they were the only game in town for AC.

Not to mention WYCD is well run with a good morning show and an owner who can afford to invest in the station.
