Doug Basham is distributed by Henderson Radio. Jones Radio may provide the satellite channel (as they do for Air America Radio) but they do not syndicate the program. Plug: Basham does a good show, which deserves wider exposure. I wish Jones or some other major syndication player would pick up his program. He does his show from 1 am to 4 am Eastern Time, when AAR does not feed original programming. Basham would be much better for over-nights than running repeats as most progressive talk stations do now during overnight hours. If he got on a blow torch like WCKY, 1530 in Cincinnati, the show might really take off and give Noory and Bohannon a run for their money. Now his major problem is a lack of callers; I have not been able to locate a station list but it sounds like he's only heard in Las Vegas, Monterey and Sacramento (and not on great nighttime signals in any of those places).

Bill Press' two West Coast stations (Sacramento and Monterey) both air Stephanie Miller live in morning drive (6am-9am). Monterey runs Bill Press live. I believe Sacramento does also, but I can't confirm that. Missoula takes Press for two hours live (4 am - 6am).

Is Basham now part of their network or just on their sat?

Wouldn't make sense, since Steph is a much better AMD option, and she's live.

Sacramento (KSAC/1240) takes Press live 3-6 AM PT, and I believe also runs Mr. Basham in his live 10-1 AM PT slot. Remember, this is a station which lost all Air America programming to KCTC/1320, so they have to run SOMETHING.

Speaking of Mr. Basham (Tom from Seattle, back AWAY from the keyboard!), who or what is "Henderson Radio", the company which supposedly handles his syndication? And does he air in his home market of Las Vegas, even on mostly brokered KLAV/1230? The only other two stations I know are Monterey and Sacramento, though I would suspect that overnights could be a growth opportunity in the libtalk format.

Having consulted in some role on the project, I can say that Basham is now working on his own, syndicating the show by himself. That's why I was interested when it was implied that Jones/WYD/one of those had enlisted him. He was on KNEWS 970, aka KNUU/Vegas, until the local FOX-TV simulcast was brought in along with the revenue it provides. Jim Bohannon eventually pushed Basham out, and he now airs on KLAV. I wouldn't be surprised if the airtime is gratis or very cheap; I'd be shocked and sorry for him if he's anywhere approaching the $60 I once sold a client for M-F 1-2am... they seem to like him over there.

I do agree that the daypart is a good place for a libtalk show, problem is, there's no money there unless your name is George Noory and you have 700 affiliates and a lot of PIs. There really isn't ANYTHING period for stations that can't get Coast; John and Jeff do a nice job and bring the potential of younger overnight demos, but some news-focused stations might shy away from their more sophomoric act. If a liberal could do a show that would sell to second- or third-string talk stations of any stripe, it could be a success.<P ID="signature">______________

You wouldn't happen to be the name invoked earlier, would you? :) I had no idea you were involved directly. I didn't make the name connection with you until now.

As far as I know, Jones is not selling Basham's show, and if they have any involvement, it's as a satellite provider selling time to him as an independent producer.

Right, and really, "success" is relative in reference to this. Mr. Basham is not going to make a lot of money off of this no matter what, even if every libtalker in America added him to the schedule. But a few non-libtalk stations could make at least a little difference for him. A few of them are slowly starting to add some liberal talk in off-hour dayparts - i.e. Ed Schultz delayed into evenings on otherwise conservative talk KSL/1160, etc.

By the way, as for the subject, another person I mentioned in a previous reply has apparently gotten upset that I mentioned his name. I don't know what his interest in this project is - maybe he's Doug Basham's long lost son or something - but I don't appreciate the invoking of "legal terms", and I'd appreciate it if this poster would back off. It's a humorous line on a message board, not a legal issue.

If the moderators have any problem with my throwaway humor line, they can let me know, and they can feel free to edit the reference to that certain person in the previous reply. I have nothing more to say to or about him.
