WYDE-AM is now WLGD?

I'd say a flip to Standards is coming up soon, if it hasn't already...It's not like anyone actually listens to the Source on AM anyway, so it might as well be Legends 1260 again.

I think 1260 has had more formats than any other station in B'ham. WLGD, sounds like We Love GoD.

1260 is still simulcasting "The Source" as of this morning, still ID'ing as WYDE. That's sort of interesting that the new calls are similar to the old call letters, WLGS. Might be a format change coming up soon, maybe Friday since its the first day of the month. 1260 has had a lot of formats and call sign changes. Crawford has been playing "ping-pong" with the WDJC and WYDE calls on 850 and 1260 for several years now.

I never understood why Crawford wanted to simulcast "The Source" on the AM signal, anyhow. Seems like their reasoning at the time was they figured they could "fill in" the areas in Shelby county where the FM signal doesn't reach too well. Most of the listeners are probably listening to the FM, though, and who can really listen to 1260 in those areas south of Birmingham with that miniscule power it's using at night (39 watts, if I recall correctly). It's almost unlistenable at night past the Hoover area, so why bother?

Formats I can recall- elevator music many years ago, black gospel -Love 1260, oldies-The Oldies Chan. Business News 1260 WCEO, Legands 1260-WLGS, southern gospel, The Source, and now We Love GoD. At one time the owners wanted to give it to UAB for a tax write off but they wouldn't take it.

I found this doing a whois search this morning. Looks as though "Legends 1260" might be making a return to Birmingham. If it does, It should be interesting to see which route WLGD takes, since Crawford's "Legends" stations in Rochester, NY and Dallas, TX sound much different. KAAM in Dallas leans more adult standards, while WLGZ in Rochester sounds more like an oldies station, similar to the way WLGS did before it left the air.

Yes, WYDE-AM is flipping soon to a 'Legends' format. Rumor is that Burt and Kurt will be the morning show and the rest of the day will be VT'd.

1260 used to be WDJC 1260 AM Radio Bible University also...simulcasted WDJC from 7pm to 5am when it was Southern Gospel and programs (and they were on low power). It went to Legends after that.
Burt and Kurt were doing mornings on the format when they first came to Crawford. If that proves to be true about them being in the morning slot...will they still do a 4 hour midday program at WYDE? They would be on the radio for 8 straight hours minimum a day.

I've heard that they are leaving WYDE for the 'new' Legends. As to what will replace their mid-day slow...who knows. There's also a much larger rumbling that Russ and Dee will be canned. This seems to be more than the usual rumors lately.

WHAT!!!???!!!???

You mean to tell me UAB had a chance to own a station it could've presumably used to aid students in it's communications department, and the university said "No thanks"?

As one of the frustrated students who helped get BLAZERadio off the ground, color me amazed and disgusted. Why would they ever turn a free, licensed radio station down? Does anybody know any details about this?

It was years ago when the offer was made, long before Crawford owned it.
