WYDE

So that means we'll be getting Braves baseball and reruns of Three's Company, right?

saw mharvard trying to find an on-air host. now hear this. i see it as a positive for both sides (and i've listened a little)

i didn't like angela whats her name. but i don't like a lot of conservative talk that is "over the top". she's been all about slamming obama (but then says she has to give credit where he's done things right). i don't really watch fox news so i won't have 101 turned on during that show.

as for the new guy in the afternoons - sounds like he has quite a following. lots of writeups on the facebook website of his and i'm already hearing actual commercials instead of just non-stop psas.

his statement is maybe we can do radio like we wanna - like we used to. so maybe he'll get something out of it. maybe WYDE and crawford will get something out of it. maybe it will all go down in a flaming mess. who knows. time will tell.

He clearly has bought listeners with him.

On that note, i think WYDE is having an identity crisis yet again. I've heard from the absolutely right wing conservative (that i can't stand) to just an opinion and information on what is happening politically. I can mostly take lee davis (and i think most people can ) ; i've had to turn him off a few times because he swung too far to the right - but usually i can take him - and i appreciated his show from an informational standpoint.

ya'll can't make all conservatives happy. and alabama is a conservative state.

clearly from the comments here and elsewhere no one is willing to give WYDE another shot. "The new guy" 's only chance is to have such an impact everyone is talking about him and more and more people tune in.

I'm with him (although i probably won't be a regular listener - except for lee davis occasionally, dave ramsey occasionally, and steve west - who is the best non-biased show host there) - i do love a challenge. if i were looking for a job, i'd be jumping on the challenge too. unfortunately i tend to always bite off more than i can chew. i'll be following these developments with everyone else.....

one more thing i'll add - my girlfriend is more into politics than anyone i know - including anyone on this show. she'd make a great show her self - i just couldn't talk her into applying for that job mharvard was asking for.....

I think it's actually good for a station to offer a diversity of viewpoints in a talk format, even if that diversity exists solely within the more conservative side of political beliefs. As long as each show can pull its own weight, it shouldn't be much of a problem. People won't stop listening to Dave Ramsey just because the guy who comes after him is a liberal, for example. They'll just tune out right when his show's over. Or, who knows, maybe they'll stick around and get mad enough to call in and engage the host. Even if the host that comes after him is equally conservative (not that Dave Ramsey is necessarily so political, but he is fiscally conservative) it doesn't mean people won't tune out. My limited experience is people are polarized by talk personalities, so even if two shows with similar leanings are up against each other, there's some tune out/tune in at that stopping point.

Having said all that, WYDE will forever be a trainwreck and I don't see Leland's loyal followers righting this listing ship. Not to mention he's now on opposite his former followup show, Richard Dixon on WAPI-FM, which will surely siphon some of Leland's listeners away, since some apparently stuck around for Dixon's show after Leland wrapped up.

parts of that "trainwreck" were really just unacceptable. i've worked in radio. you're given exact lengths of breaks - even for automation. WYDE was constantly off by 30 or 60 seconds - the satellite feeds would kick back in 30 seconds late or the imaging was just shot. it was a mess. an inexcusable mess. If the programming was live, it was better, but when it wasn't live, well. enough said.

It was like whomever had the job to make it sound "right" (i'm not going to say crisp and clear) just did not care. i run a company. a few, actually, and we've had some difficulties where people didn't do what they were supposed to, etc, and we've had to have some come to jesus meetings - but the problems have been attempted to be resolved.

all that being said - someone new is in charge now. perhaps it has a chance.

edit: 10 minutes later. ok, not that many new ads. still tons of PSAs. I've worked at enough stations to know you can at least get a little money off "network ads". Does WYDE not qualify for these? It sounds better than psas all the time (well, i don't know if it does for non-radio people...)

any new "buzz" on the relaunch. i listened to leland the first day and i think the "crawford taming" hurts his program more than it did matt murphy when he was on wyde. leland just seemed stiff.

As long as Crawford owns it, it will continue to be a mess.
