WYFQ 930

Is anyone listening to WYFQ 930? I only know of one person who ever listened to it. He was someone I worked with and he listened to all the Christian stations for the various programs.

Most people who listen to Christian radio seem to listen to WRCM, WPZS and WMIT. I don't hear much about WHVN anymore either.

If I listen to Christian music, this is all I listen to (though I get it on 93.5). This or WMUU 94.5, which is usually secular but still great.

Which leaves no one listening to 930....When I worked there and it was still WSOC I used to call it the invisible AM....the tradition continues!

My family and I listen to 930 WYFQ quite a bit. My kids love the children's programs BBN airs. My boss always told me that at least 1 person is always listening to a radio station. I don't think BBN promotes their stations enough. I think more people listen to the station than you think they do, but not as many as listen to 91.9, 100.9 or 106.9.

Thanks for your comments and I'm glad to hear it. I never hear anything about WYFQ or run into anyone that listens. 25 years ago I came to Charlotte to work for AM 93 WSOC as it was called then so it will always be a special station to me. It was a good move and an exciting time. My first daughter had just been born the month before. New family, new job, new city!

Mike,

Did you work for Lee Morris when it was all news for a spell?

Lee Morris yes, news no. I replaced a guy who knew nothing about the music they were playing.

Don Bell was PD, I used to listen to Don when he was on WIOD in Miami. Mr. Morris was the GM. I saw him at Don Bell's funeral and he looked good and seemed to be enjoying life. That was around 3 or 4 years ago.

Did you know Bill Huffstetler the CE? I saw him at a WSOC (mostly TV) alumni dinner last Tuesday. He's all smiles today which is great. Back when he was CE he grumbled all the time!

The board I use at K-104.7 to do tracks is the exact same board I used on-air at WSOC-AM! Scott Hollingsworth confirmed it.

Ahhh...radio! Yep, I know Huffstedler. I'm glad to hear he's enjoying life.

As for that ole board- if only it could talk!

Wow! You guys are bringing back some great memories. I was at WSOC-AM in the years before it was sold. Remember the summer there was a major leagure baseball game everyday?

And to quote Huff...."Just hold on and we'll drag your ass through it"

Mike Terry!

You should come join us at the next WSOC alumni dinner. Lots of talk about the good old days. Some of it from way before my time. We need to get more radio people in the mix. Sometimes they meet at a restaurant in Belmont, I don't go to those but when they meet in Charlotte I'm usually there.

Do you know what Edd Robinson is doing now that they changed the format at WFMX?

Sorry, I don't know what Edd is doing. I'm in Nashville so dinner in Belmont could be a little tough but I'd sure like to join the group and hear a few of the stories.

Mike S and Mike T:

Edd is taking some time off from radio right now. I talked to him via e-mail a few weeks back and he said he had a couple irons in the fire and would let me know if any came to fruition!

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info. Please give Edd my best and let him know that Jim Wall would still like to get together with him for lunch. They had talked about getting together some time ago before everything came down at WFMX.
