Anyone know why I am not picking up the digital channel of WYIN TV? I live in Elmhurst which is probably
about 40 miles from Merrillville, In. I've tried both a rooftop and a tabletop antenna and receive nothing on
17.

I don't know if WYIN will get a power increase after analog is shutoff, but if they stay at 300kw, then don't expect WYIN to come in clear in Elmhurst. I'd be surprised if it comes in at all on 56. I know I can't get WYIN in all that clear on analog 56 (and I live in the primary contour, and only 20 miles from the tower), but I have no problems getting digital 17. Had WYIN had the money to lease space on the Sears Tower, then you would have been able to get WYIN in with no problems, but the cost to lease space on the Sears Tower caused them to withdraw their plans to have both analog & digital transmission there. So they're staying at their site in Cedar Lake Indiana.

I thought it was less about cost and more about WTTW and WYCC fighting tooth and nail against it.

WTTW & to a lesser extent WYCC fought to deny WYIN's request to move to the Sears Tower. The FCC approved WYIN's request, but they had to buy new analog equipment regardless due to a lightning strike knocked their old equipment out. But after factoring in the cost of the equipment (both analog & digital), and the lease to be on the Sears Tower, it was too much for them. WYIN doesn't bring in as much revenue in donations as WTTW does. Their primary focus is serving NW Indiana, and that's where most of their money is raised. So they depend on government grants more than WTTW does. So cost was a main issue in why they didn't move to the Sears Tower, or they would have done so. WTTW especially didn't want WYIN up on the Sears Tower due to them being a direct competitor, plus because WYIN is licensed to Gary Indiana, which makes them eligible for discounts on PBS programming. It's a shame that they weren't able to make the move, but even if they did, NW Indiana still was gonna be their targeted audience, and the Sears Tower location was just so NW Indiana residents using OTA antennas could get WYIN clearer.

Run-on sentences drive me nuts.

I also have difficulty receiving the WYIN digital signal during periods of inclement weather. I live in Downers Grove and receive a decent analog picture but the dgital seems to be unstable. Sometimes I wonder if they are having troubles out there.

By the way, I sure miss the Inidiana/Purdue basketball games that were on 56 until this year.

Grammar has never been a strong subject for me. No matter how many times teachers tried to correct me, I never got it right. So I don't bother.

Anyway, where I live at; the digital is better than the analog. So when i get the chance, I watch it on the digital channel. I'm just waiting for the vouchers so I can get the digital boxes. The vouchers are only good for the SDTV boxes, and so far Wal-mart & Circuit City carry the boxes in my area.
