WYNF Changes Calls to WPCH, New Format After Christmas

The FCC web site confirms WYNF calls changed, effective today, to WPCH. It's their seventh set of calls in 14 years. And the Macon Telegraph reports a new format, "unique to the area", to debut the day after Christmas.

Hmmm... beautiful music makes a comeback?

WPCH calls were on 94.9 in Atlanta for a long time (almost 30 years) until 2003, then they were parked on one of CC's underperforming AM's in Augusta.

Right. Even after Jacor took WPCH/Atlanta to AC, they kept the calls.

The question is... what's not being done in Macon?

Oldies (which may have finally run its course), Smooth Jazz/New Adult Contemporary (no idea what it's being called... we did it for a while on WLJA/Gordon, where it sucked wind) or Beautiful Music.

I dunno... nobody in our office (30 or so folks) even has a radio at their desk. They all listen to online radio or share mp3 files.

So what generates the ratings? I've not played the ratings game in over 10 years, so I'm too far removed to really know.

I sure hope it's beautiful music.

I emailed the station and mentioned I hope it's a b/ez station and they told me that they thought I would be happy with what it's going to be so that's a good sign. Also I mentioned the signal strength is weak in Perry and parts of Warner Robins and they told me their working on it.They told me sometimes in 2007 the signal will be much stronger.

There is 3 formats that arn't being done.
1)Beautiful Music I hope this is the format it will be.Anyone remember WCRY from Macon and WJCL from Savannah?Of course I can hear beautiful music on Xm Escape channel 78 and Dishnetwork Channel 973 but I'd still like to here it on Fm.

2)Standards

3)Oldies

I used to listen to WCRY as a kid back in the 70's when I lived in Warner Robins. I used it as night music while I slept. Sorta thought it kept the boogie monster away. I remember a morning show that had one announcer and played songs from a Lite AC format. The rest of the day as I recall was beautiful music.

Funny thing now is that I have a son who listens to WDSJ Smooth Jazz 106.5 in Dayton to keep his "boogie monster" away.

At least the PCH calls are still in GA. The YNF calls need to be moved back down to Tampa, where they belong!

Yea I still rember Hal Sutton and Tom Meede from Wcry.I've heard Sutton on Wmaz but I don't know what happen to Meede.

Dunno if it's the same guy (I've not been around middle GA that many years), but Hal Sutton's the chief at WPGA-TV (chief engineer - to quote Bill Engvall.. "apparently, they travel in tribes")
