WYOK...did anything happen?

I was looking at some posts I wasn't able to view in the past week and saw where ATyler mentioned WYOK and September 6. September 6 was yesterday. Did anything happen yesterday or did Katrina put those plans on hold?<P ID="signature">______________

i talked with johnny o at wyok-- and he told me they had major damage throughout the city but the RADIO PEOPLE of jackson were helping put together a MAJOR FOOD/MONEY/DONATION DRIVE FOR TOMORROW IN JACKSON --

WOKK IS ALMOST UP AND RUNNING ALBEIT STILL VERY INFO INTENSIVE-- THEY HAVE ALMOST 10,000 EVACUEES IN THEIR SMALL CITY OF MERIDIAN.

BUT FOLKS ARE BEING VERY OPEN AND HELPFUL-- HERE IN ALABAMA ALMOST 15K EVACUEES WILL BE HOUSED IN PRIVATE HOMES TONIGHT AND 15K IN SHELTERS.

GOOD JOB TO ALL FELLOW AMERICANS WHO HAVE HELPED.

LET US ALL NOT FORGET IN THE COMING WEEKS/MONTHS.

I HOPE IF THIS HAPPENS TO MY CITY -- AMERICANS WILL ROCK THE HOUSE HERE LIKE THEY ARE DOING WITH THE COAST.

AND I WANT GENERAL HONORE IN CHARGE HERE FROM THE START.

I can confirm it--nothing's happened, except Hot hasn't joined the "United Radio Broadcasters of New Orleans" as much as last week (though I still think they b-cast it in overnights). WYOK is still spinning tunes, and they had a live remote from somewhere yesterday collecting food and supplies (can't remember where). Still running promos about getting your Hot 104 keytag and such.

If a major change was coming, I couldn't tell it from what was heard in the last day or so, but that certainly doesn't mean things won't change. Maybe Katrina coverage has changed their plans a bit--I'm sure Mobile-area evacuees from N.O. and folks on the Mississippi coast have appreciated it somewhat, with so many stations in their respective areas unoperational.
