WYOK-Mobile PD cut loose

I noticed on R&R that K-Country has lost PD/afternoon host Steve Gramsay.

This used to be one of our favorite stations to listen to while traveling. K-Country has been
cut to the bone, for sure. It was running automated with no voices at all last time we went
through the area.

Best wishes to everyone affected in all the cuts.

Just to clarify: This post is referring to Kicks 104, not Albany's K-Country 104. Couldn't edit original post in time.

Eventhough there has been some good people thru Kicks, it was doomed from the start. A Pizatti idea, with Pizatti way of marketing means eventual flip. MOVING TRUCKS DON'T DO SQUAT, JACKASS! Going back to 04, Hot 104 had a lot of momentum going against WABB. I don't think it was so much Ivan that did that station in, as much as it was Pizatti having an opening to get his way. He took full advantage of the situation to get HIS station on. Not one that was forced on him from Atlanta.

Moving forward, does it stay an automated 2 share country station, or does Cumulus try going in a rock direction like they almost did with 106.5 when they had it, OR could they honestly, maybe take another shot at WABB? That station is sooooo ripe for the pickings, it's a shame the economy is the way it is. But, is it worth the risk?

Bring the Oldies back to Mobile and Pensacola. Put Scott Shannon's True Oldies on there with Rick and Bubba in the morning, turn off the lights to save money and go home. Have someone from 93 BLX check on the station every couple of days to make sure it's still on the air.

I say Cumulus should go sports on 104.1. Pensacola's station is middling, Mobile's station is small, and Biloxi's station is automated on a graveyard AM. Nab ESPN Radio from WNSP (or clear Fox Sports + Jim Rome) and Tide football from WZEW. Turn off the stereo and you could own the sports audience from Biloxi to Fort Walton Beach.

We have a perfectly good 100kw heritage sports FM in Fort Walton Beach thank you. It's signal is almost as good as the 50kw Rock station that broadcast from an adjacent tower.

Blah, blah, half of that gets sent to the fishes fortunate enough to afford tuners :D Is the station any good? Will it even be a sports station six months from now?

C'mon, my monster station creation is 100,000 watts on a tall tower covering three ratings metros and a million people. It will have first class national hosts (Dan Patrick, Jim Rome or Mike Tirico and Colin Cowherd) as well as good local ones who'll only cheat you out of money thanks to a bad football pick. With SEC football and perhaps the Saints, my 104.1 will win on signal AND content. 'The Ticket' will get punched if it tried to hang with my station!

It can't happen. Auburn or Alabama? They'd have to carry both.

Cumulus could pull it off by putting Alabama football on a new sports station and bump Auburn games that were being played at the same time as an Alabama game to Q-100.
I think I read that the Saints aren't on the radio in Mobile because WWL-AM claims the Biloxi and Mobile markets. I assume this is true because I've never heard a Saints game on the radio here in Pensacola.

And don't knock the Ticket. We've had sports over here far longer than Mobile has on that little Bay Minette station! And the Ticket has the Gators, no Mobile station would dare carry the Gators. :D

You have a point. In Birmingham, Citadel owns sports station 94.5 WJOX-FM--it carries Auburn football and shuttles Alabama games to its co-owned classic rock station WZRR 99.5 (both 100kw and licensed to B'ham, so no real signal discrepancy). In Montgomery, Auburn lives on Cumulus' country giant WLWI 92.3, and Alabama gets on the smaller, co-owned classic rocker WXFX 95.1.

Auburn football airing on Q-100 (of Pensacola) would not be so perverse, as WYCL (as oldies "Cool 107.3") was a Tide affiliate for a while.

Yeah, but The Ticket was at its best when Clear Channel had it mated to ESPN, back when it had Dan Patrick and Tony Kornheiser. And when it was on the Andalusia tall tower so that you could listen over much of south Alabama while faking its Pensacola roots.

WOWW 107.3 was the Auburn affilate for a very long time back in Auburn's Pat Dye/Bo Jackson glory days.

In Pensacola, Auburn football has been delegated to small rim shot signals like WPFL and WCSN and you can't even pick up Alabama football on the radio here. I hadn't thought about this before, but it seems very strange. I'm so used to the big 4 (Auburn, Alabama, Florida, & FSU) being all over the dial when they were playing.

If Cumulus or Clear Channel wanted to try sports on a 100kw Baldwin county station, carrying Alabama and Auburn football (and moving the weaker games to another 100kw station) would get them all the attention they needed to make such a station a top player in the market. Just launch it about a month before college football season starts. I now wonder why there isn't a Mobile-Pensacola FM sports station yet and how long it will be before we get one.

If we don't get a 100kw sports station before football season starts, I hope Cat Country is smart enough to pick up the Tide games for the Mobile/Pensacola market.

Can you hear 98.1 the ticket down there?

I agree, oldies would be PERFECT for this, I seriously doubt they will change 92.9's rap crap as i'm sure there high in the ratings.

Let's see how many country stations are here...

98.7, 102.7, 92.5, 104.7, 94.9 KSJ, 95.5 (tropo), 93.7 (tropo), 96.9 (tropo) 104.1 and 103.5 (tropo) did i miss anyone
ohh and let's not forget 105.5. which you can't hear in mobile (thank god)
