The WYOS license was returned to the FCC by Townsquare Media on July 19 and cancelled on July 20, bringing to an end the 76-year history of the station that began as WKOP at 750 kHz on July 15, 1947, moving to its permament home at 1360 kHz in June 1950. Townsquare had actually shut down the station on December 28, 2022. It had run a sports format since 2006, first using programming from ESPN radio, and since 2013 as a CBS Sports Radio affiliate. It may be best remembered as the area's primary country music station during the 1960s and '70s -- until the advent of a strong country music station on FM in the market (WHWK).
