There has been some chat about WYPL over the past few weeks. I was out at the main site today to re-install our RDS encoder, and the WYPL folks were kind enough to let me make a few audio suggestions while I was waving spectrum analyzers around.
Bottom line is that as of this evening (6/9/10) it is runnng in clean mono, and on my way out I carried the signal clear all the down past Clarksdale, MS. You might want to give it a re-listen.
Previously I had not had a chance to hear this station over a long period of time, but from my sampling today I found the programming to be not bad at all. I think you are lucky to have it as a choice. Palmer, you are right that the WYPL folks are as nice as can be, and they speak highly of the good grounding and other work that you are doing there.
