Over the years, I have enjoyed WYPL's programming. Sometimes when I work late it is good to hear local news and information when these shows would be off by time I get home. Being a reserve officer with The Memphis/Shelby County Emergency Management Agency, I like their Severe Weather Alerts. I would like to see them tie the alerts with more updated traffic and news like most AM Stations program. They definitively help the vision impared by reading newspaper and magazines. Lately, WYPL has been playing Memphis music in two four hour blocks for their 25 anniversary. I listened one night on my way down to the casinos. The reception was good until I arrived close to the casinos. They were playing STAX Soul music. The only interuptions was ads looking for money to help with the Memphis Music Deptment at the Library. They were tastefully done, not pushy. I think this is a noble cause and I sure there are people who love Memphis Music. What I don't understand is the programming hours. They play Memphis Music from 8pm to Midnight and then from 4am to 8am. These are horrible hours in my opinion. These are heavy competition hours especially in the mornings. What do you think? Would any other hours work or should they stick to other programming? Could they raise more money for Memphis Music, if they had a one time concert maybe at The Main Library or The Overton Park Shell with old Memphis artists?
