WYRE 105.5, can it upgrade to cover Jax?

This is Patty Steele's radio station in St. Augustine Beach. Station sounds great, hot AC, good imaging and very good signal in St. Augustine. Claims to cover "all of St. Johns county" but station is very weak in Northern St. Johns. Not sure how strong it is to the south in Marineland and Flagler.

Are there spacing issues preventing an upgrade into Jax or at least Southern Duval county? I know of 105.3 in Gainesville and WHJX 105.7 in Baldwin, Fl. Only other 105.5 I know of is in Tampa.
 
Does JAX have room for LPFM translators? I don't know what else is on 105.5 besides country 105 out of Ft Walton.
That would be a reasonable solution to cover that part of Jax.
 
No, that's not the way it works, as I said anything closer on 105.5 would interfere with 105.3 and 105.7. A translator on a different frequency would work.
 
It is entirely possible the directional antenna employed by WYRE-FM has a much deeper null to the North than the application for their FM DA requires. If I read the pattern info from the FCC site(polar plot) correctly, WYRE-FM should have the equivalent signal of a 10 thousand watt station at 410 feet to the North. Explaining my thought processes: ERP reduced to 16kW because of antenna height. Deepest null specified on the FCC website indicates the null should be about 6/10's of the maximum signal from the antenna. 6/10th's (60 per cent) of 16kW=9.6kW Considering the terrain, adjacents, etc., the signal in the null should be much better. Maybe my calculations are wrong based on my limited engineering knowledge, but if they are close, southern Duval and northern St. Johns should have a very listenable signal on 105.5.

Think about any other stations you have worked with and their coverage area. 10kW ERP at 410 feet with flat terrain should cover a sizable area.
 
not that simple sparky...you are not taking into consideration co channels at 105.3 and 105.5, or the towerfarm north of St Johns on route 95...we've had many engineering consultants study the pattern. Dielectric is one of the top 3 antenna manufacturers. Additional height may help, which is under consideration.

Well, there you have it from the boss! WYRE-FM 105.5 has inherent signal limitations in Jax proper because of the current co-channel allocations, etc. From my listening observations, the signal is good in certain areas of southern and southwestern Duval, in eastern Clay, and very good to excellent in most of St. Johns and Flagler counties. Congrats to Mr. Kingston and staff on creating a new format for St. Augustine that would play well anywhere, and also for implementing the best signal processing I've ever heard on 105.5! Well Done! As has already been indicated, if there's a practical way to improve coverage over Jacksonville, they'll find a way.
