WYRK #1 Again

WYRK is not a well programmed station. It really sounds horrible. I am a P1 county listener and hardly listen to YRK. I listen to my IPOD. Too many commercials on YRK, meaningless talk, overprocessed...it is bad. Another station could take shares.

The whole market is poorly processed and sounds horrible-especially compared to Toronto. Of course this is an opinion from an engineer's point of view.

Heh. If you think Buffalo's overprocessed, take a ride to Syracuse. Absolute garbage on many of the stations there. I have to say that Q-107 sure knows how to do rock music. They're both loud and good, especially in the northern 'burbs.

Engineers have their hands full doing IT, HVAC and security on top of riding herd on the audio processing and taking care of four or five RF plants. Word is the GM of one cluster told the CE to take care of the plumbing and the snow plowing. And then there's well intentioned PDs who can't resist playing with the settings on the new toys. The music released by record companies these days sounds like it's been slammed before it even hits the audio console. All this creates a recipe for ear shattering audio, regardless of the format. WYRK is number one because more P-1s love it than not. P2s dig it plenty enough, too. Think it can be beat? You'll need deep pockets, plenty of time and a big signal. You might want to kidnap Clay Moden and Dale Mussen, too.

How do the Fox-Fur stations sound?

In defense of WYRK, unless I'm wrong, its processing very likely has been set up by Bill Stachowiak, one of the sharpest and highly respected engineers in Buffalo.

No idea. Not a country fan, and was just passing through. I didn't get a chance to hear everyone. I did hear plenty of bad audio on the Clear Channel, Cumulus, & Galaxy stations, though.

Unless there have been recent changes, I don't get all the negativity about 'YRK's processing. 20 years ago it sounded like old phonograph records (On a $3 turntable). After ARS/CBS took over, it was cleaned up. Last time I heard it...'bout a year ago...it was clean as ever. Yes, plenty of processing but transparent.
