WYRK'S PLAYLIST

First, the qualifier - I only hear 'YRK when traveling thru WNY - a 3-4x/year occasion...

Even though I commented on another thread about needing a half-hour to figure out their PM Driver was indeed live and had a personality (something I'd rather have heard from the first break!)...my wife and I always enjoy the variety of new adds, current hits and recurrent/oldies. There's a good amount of depth and they have a tendency to add songs early in their chart life. Also both 'YRK and 'BEE get personal kudos for still playing this gem that only made Top 25 nationally several months ago.

'YRK's playing his new song "Didn't I"...a good tune but I like "Real" better.

I know absolutely nothing about WNY's local Country scene...but my station has highlighted local artists occasionally at night. To me, the key is to play the local act because they're good, not just because they're local. And when you play one, feature it, don't just slip it in between the cracks. Plus the PD has to be willing to be a gatekeeper who can graciously say "no" to tunes that can't make the cut. It's one thing to say "no" to a record promoter...it's harder to say "no" when it's someone who could come into possession of a diary or PPM - or influence someone who does. That's probably the #1 reason many stations avoid local music altogether.
