WYSL and IBOC

Yes, I'm aware of that. I thought some might like to read more of the technical details of Mr. Savage's complaint.

This is a story that needs to be repeated. Mr. Savage spent 20 years of his life building up his radio station from a 500 watt daytimer to its current 20kw operation, only to see WYSL's nighttime coverage of metro Rochester hindered because of an ill-conceived idea (IBOC).
How would WBZ like it if some other media giant turned on IBOC at night and interfered with their signal (1030)? Want to bet that CBS (WBZ's owner) would be the first to complain to the FCC? Damn straight they would! WBZ apparently figures they are the big 50kw and to hell with smaller market stations like WYSL.
Good luck Mr. Savage in your on-going battle.

You mean like KDKA? ;D

We should all rally around Mr. Savage and march on Washington to get rid of IBOC interference! :)

Better yet write to your congressional representative. Remember next year a number of these individuals will be seeking re-election: Reynolds, Kuhl, Walsh, Slaughter to name a few. When you write to them mention how IBOC has impaired WYSL's coverage into the Rochester market.
If you don't get a reply from these congressional representatives or their response is not what you want, then vote for their opponent.
Reynolds, Kuhl and Walsh barely won re-election two years ago and I'm sure they don't want to alienate more voters

Hmm. Might backfire with one of those incumbents ... Louise might consider limiting the range of the Bill Nojay show a plus. ;)

Huh? NewsPower 1040 with Sheena Easton

And just this evening as I was listening to NBC 10 News when all of the sudden as I made a left turn I heard in the static "My baby takes the morning train he works from nine to five..."

What the...? Where did THAT come from? I knew the interference was bad, just not THAT bad!!!

Dustin, were you able to DX out a callsign?? (WYSL is 100% Sheena Easton-free, even when we're all smoking crack, which is only on alternate Fridays anyway.)

Eureka! That's just the ticket for the new 1220 signal!! "All Sheena Easton all the time!"

Bob Savage commented (tongue firmly in cheek, one presumes), "Eureka! That's just the ticket for the new 1220 signal!! "All Sheena Easton all the time!"

LOL! But seriously, Bob, what ARE you going to do with that 2500 watt directional signal, that'll complement the existing 1040 service while steering clear of competing with it?

Holy moley!! Any truth to those reports that Sheena Easton is gonna be torn down to build an expressway?

Bob1370, seriously, I have no clue as to what the 1220 format is going to be. We just filed the 301 yesterday so now we get to hear at least 180 days of a looping "Jeopardy" theme from the FCC before we even look at a grant.

Once we actually have the station, then we'll start to look at tactics instead of strategy.

Maybe by then IBOC will be in its grave, at least for AM. I see Ford has announced - even though it's an iBiquity investor - no HD radios in 2009 cars unless custom ordered (about a $500 option.)

No I wasn't, but I still would like to know where it came from! Other strange things have been going on. WWJ came in on night on 950 instead of WROC, and when I was driving down to Jamestown one evening WHAM had a large amount of static. Something must be up in the atmosphere...
