WYSL-FM is on the air

I listened on the way to work this AM at 6. Sounded very nice. Jim Quinn gave a plug to the station as well. A bonus: no IBOC noise from WBZ!

Thanks, John - as of 6:43 our voice-over-IP link failed, but Frontier is working on it. We noticed some funky stuff going on with the DSL to Pinnacle Hill yesterday afternoon but it suddenly straightened itself out.

Obviously there is still a problem. We're on it. But for now enjoy the dead carrier.

It was a great group effort up on Pinnacle last night. TVs and WXXI-FM and WRUR-FM were off air (RFR) while riggers were on the WXXI tower; both John Walsh and Eric Mehlenbacher were there along with Nolan Stephany, Mark Humphrey and four guys from Rid Gifford's team. 92.1 signed on at 5:01am. Thanks very much to all of our (tired) team.

Cudos to Savage for bringing in the "big guns"!!! Having worked with 1 or 3 of these guys....Allstate has no chance against these "good hands"... that's all. ;D

The New FM Talk 92.1 is back on as of about 12:10pm. Our Frontier friends had failed to properly configure their DSL modem causing it to lose its assigned static IP. Hopefully we'll stay cookin' now.

Noticed that 1040 nailed its first 1.0 in the Sep-Oct-Nov rolling 3-month. It will be fun to see how much 92.1 adds. Thanks to all for the glad tidings; we'll try and keep it on for you now! :D

While we're accepting congratulations on The New FM Talk 92.1, I want to acknowledge - "scrolling credits style" - all the great people who helped make this a reality.

We appreciate the help, coordination and creativity of WXXI's Kent Hatfield and Nolan Stephany, WHEC's John Walsh and WROC's Eric Melenbacher. Criss Onan of BE-Fairport and Doug Ross from PSI, antenna manufacturers in Ebensburg, PA, who fast-tracked the transmitter and antenna. My go-to guy in capital projects, the King Of Personal Service And Superb Follow-Through, Jim Peck from SCMS. Rick Snavely and Jim Travis at Family Life Networks. Robert Smith, telecom GM of Frontier regional. Great moral support and input from Scott Fybush. My terrific WYSL team - Bob D, JC, Jimbo, Mark, Jeff and Alison.

But most of all - heartfelt thanks to Mark Humphrey whose vision, expertise and long hours of hard work will be always remembered and appreciated. My fond wish for all of you is that some Mark Humphrey will someday parachute into your lives and careers and do the kinds of things he has done for WYSL.

Well done, all!

Sorry I missed my first Saturday with the FM up and running. Congratulations both on 92.1 and also the latest book showing a growing audience for WYSL. I still believe the station has a much larger audience than the ratings indicate, but then I'm somewhat bias. ;D

Driving around Charlotte and Greece near the lake today. 92.1 has a listenable signal but a lot of interference from WSEN. 1040AM was much stronger.

FM reception conditions are unsettled at the moment - there's tropospheric ducting going on that's bringing in distant signals much stronger than usual. I have a feeling 92.1 will have a cleaner shot toward the lakeshore when the trop goes away in a day or two. I drove it west last night and had it (not great, but listenable) as far as Batavia.

Bob,

Signal sounds good. Glad to be of service.
