WYSL on FM

Scottsoid (and others) - what are you using to listen to WSEN-FM, a 9-foot long log periodic on a 200-foot tower? I've tried to get them on both my Jeep and my pickup radios and have never received more than brief bursts of programming above the noise floor.

C'mon over and hear for yourself - it's a ChannelMaster Quantum 1110 VHF TV antenna (which is actually pretty lousy on FM), at about 40' AGL, feeding my Sony XDR-F1HD.

Is your beer cold? Oh, wait, I forgot - EVERYTHING'S cold around here these days. (Good thing you've got that SONY HD radio & small-room space heater to keep toasty.)

That's not exotic receiving gear, but it's still far more than a casual listener would typically have around the house to listen to a distant FM signal. And the aforementioned highly sensitive SONY tuner - admittedly a pretty darn fine radio. However:

I'll have to invite you over to hear and play with my VAL 601P. With its glowing tube filaments, magic eye tuning, and bass you can feel through the soles of your feet in the next room - at normal listening volume. Now THAT'S a radio (Santa was VERY good to Savage this year.) And it's utterly gorgeous: the supermodel of AM-FM radios.

There seems to be a brick wall at the Monroe/Wayne Counties line that blocks WSEN 92.1. You usually can pick them up on the Thruway heading East around Manchester. It dies on Rt 104 Heading West before you get to Webster. I have been on Rt 31F near Fairport and could tell what song they were playing or who the jock was, but it really wasn't listenable.
A translator on 92.1 with 99 watts shouldn't cause any interference for WSEN. I don't know if WSEN's new ownership will try to stop it (Buckley might have). They may not know or care. WSEN has shown up in the Rochester book.
WYSL 's translator on Pinnacle Hill will certainly give them a much better city grade but won't do them much good in Irondequoit, Greece or Western Monroe County.
