WYSL's Bill Nojay Wins GOP Primary for State Assembly

"Also remember that numerous lawmakers regularly appear on either local radio or TV talk shows or public information programs. The only difference here would be that Mr. Nojay would be the host."

VOR, making an occasional appearance on radio talking about your main public function--as most office-holders do--is a very different thing from going on the air an hour or two daily and, if you're taking your job seriously, being ready to talk with people in an informed way about just about any local or national topic of public interest that can come up. That takes a lot of prep time to be able to do right. If you are who I think you are, VOR, you should know that first hand...

Bob, I don't know if you have ever listened to the Nojay program. If you had you would know that he doesn't take callers, largely because our nine affiliates DB the show to later hours. In addition, because of Bill's schedule, the show is frequently prerecorded anyway - I would say, probably 40% of the time.

The format of the show is primarily commentary, augmented at time by guests, either in-studio or on the phone.

Bill does not talk about his candidacy or the Assembly race. Ever.

Thank you Mr. Savage for your comments.

Obviously Dr. Smith does not listen to Bill Nojay's program because if he did he would have known Nojay does not take calls from listeners.

Meanwhile if one listens to Dr. Smith's show they will hear the same guests on a regular basis. It is his show and he can book whom ever he so desires.

The difference between Bill Nojay and Bob Smith's programs is that Mr. Nojay has been an advocate for upstate New Yorkers since his program first made his debut a few years ago. There have been numerous times however where Dr. Smith has been "urged" by management to feature certain individuals who can financially benefit the station he works for.

Obviously I'm otherwise occupied when Bill's on. And obviously VOR has never heard my daily program (which is live and offers a very wide variety of local and national guests, along with a few local favorites who appear once each month), or else he is conveying a misleading impression of it in order to press his own biases. We won't get into whatever motivations he might have for that, it's no matter. BUT it is never the purpose of a nonpartisan program like mine to be an "advocate" for any one political activist's vision of what's best for upstate New Yorkers, nor should it be. Further, if he wants to contend that anyone in station management has coerced me to book any guest for any reason at all, or any guest has been selected for any reason other than either appeal to the listener or direct relevance to the issues of the day, he speaks absolutely falsely.

Having worked with Bob for 14 years I can personally attest that no one from the front office ever told Bob who to book as a guest on his show.

Even when Bob went on vacation and I was asked to fill-in as host nobody from management came to me and said book this person or that person. The truth is (at that time) Bob had a producer whose job was to book guests for his show. Later Bob booked his own guests.

The idea that certain guests were selected to appear on Bob's show because of some positive financial impact to the radio station is the most outlandish thing I've heard in a very long time.

Aw, you guys are letting facts get in the way of a long-established and well-nourished bias.
