WYSP Could Shoot Themselves In The Foot If They Bring Back Rock

Interesting that in the latest August PPM, the top four biggest gainers in order of cume are:

WJJZ (+67300)
WMMR (+46300)
WIP (+45300)
WYSP (+44100)

So you have legendary WMMR and new kid on the block WRFF (which also gained a little, by the way, but just over 10K) plus, male-gearing sports talker WIP out of its own cluster, gaining ground...

With all this said, would it even be a wise option to reinstate rock on 94.1? Or I suppose they can just build on their recent increase. And if this strategy is going to align the stars so that WOGL upends the mighty B101, please explain it to me in detail.

There is no explanation, for the talk/rock block at least. WYSP in all it's similar formats will be dead and buried by next spring at the latest.

Despite the calls of one well-known individual, having full time rock 24/7/365 will never be a breadwinner in Philly. It's very obvious and very simple. Much like a rock song, you need a good hook to establish longevity. With the recent (and upcoming) changes, battles will ensue, and Preston and Steve will not emerge as such on WMMR, and O/A will prove they are not that on WYSP. Neither are Howard, and I think Howard has now sufficiently proven that without Howard, you can't guarantee a sustained listenerbase throughout a day.

Will 104.5 find the right formula? We'll see. Will we ever find out if an Active Talk FM format would have worked in the Philly market? No.

No matter how you slice it, the Philly listeners have lost.
