WYSP lineage

Ok, I know HOward Stern was WYSP's morning man back in the 80's when Cindy Drue came on with Noon Time nuggets, and late nights WYSP had Randy Kotz and his Kotz Comedy corner show. But Can someone tell me about WYSP's history.
When did Howard come on board? I know at the time, way back when WYSP was playing rock ( i.e the Stones, Journey, CCSNY, Starship,The grateful Dead ) who was doing mornings before Howard at 94.1? I'm really interested in this because in contrast, I know that WMMR grew out of Dave Herman's "Marconi Experiment" in the basement of WNEW back in the day, so I am looking to learn some lineage of WYSP's roots.

I know Howard was on by the end of '86. I was in the hospital in November of that year and I remember hearing him on WYSP there.

The memories are faded, but I think the morning man right before him was a guy named Scruff Connors who had come from Toronto. After Joey Reynolds got bounced from WFIL there was some talk that WYSP was going to bring him in in some capacity, and I think he started showing up as a guest on Connors' show, but when the Stern deal was made that didn't happen.

Yes it was Scruff Conners....Before him I can't recall
Midday was Randy Kotz, then he got a big head and got bounced for Debbie Caulton, who later go bounced for Serfe
Middays was Scruff when Stern took over then DeBella came on board. and Scruff left, that is all I remember

Was it Steveski(sp)?

WYSP, the former WIBG-FM, became a rock station in 1973. I remember their mid- 1970s morning team of Fox and Leonard. BTW, the call letters mean 'Your Station in Philadelphia."
'YSP circa 1976-86 was pretty much a carbon copy of WMMR. There were times when I couldn't tell which station I was listening to.In the early '80s Michael Picozzi did mornings, Pam Merly did afternoons, and Randy Kotz did evenings. Debbie Calton and Rick Allen were also there. They used the liner "94 Rock, WYSP." After Picozzi left in 1983, Steve Sutton, former WMMR morning and midday DJ, did mornings. Anita, who had also been bounced from WMMR, came over and did 10-2pm. She was known for her "Ask Anita" feature at noon. Anita later did mornings in 1985, but got bounced in the famous Labor Day massacre. Scruff Conners did mornings in 85-86, and then Stern came on in August 1986. When WYSP was in the classic rock format, Ed Sciaky did afternoons. This was in the late '80s. I also remember when Michael Tearson went to WYSP around 1995, which reminded me of Pete Rose playing for the Montreal Expos. DeBella joined WYSP in November 1994 in a much publicized event with Stern.

How about the Fox and Leonard Morning Show and Denny 'Doc Rock' Somach

I remember when Scruff was doing mornings, then was bounced to afternoons, when they flipped to Classic Rock and added Stern. He was not too happy about it and made it known on the air and to management and thus he was history. In the early to mid 80's before Stern YSP truly rocked, there was also a jock, Chopper Harris who was a biker and brought his wild antics and music to the station. What happened to this great station of the mid 80's.

Yes, there was Sonny Fox and Bob Leonard in the morning. They were actually one of the earlier incarnations of the Morning Zoo format that came into prominence in the early 80's. Sonny Fox was one of the driving forces behind a syndicated program Superstar Radio Network Presents, which was a live concert program in the late 70's featuring artists like The Babys, Joan Armatrading recorded live in venues from Philly.

I believe that Denny Somach was an afternoon guy back then, but I dont remember exactly.

Wow, talk about bringing back rock radio memories from Philly. We actually had 3 good rock radio station back then with WMMR, WYSP and WIOQ.
