WYVS 96.5 Speculator build under way

Was up on Oak Mt.(ski area) in Speculator on Friday. A building for the transmitter about the size of an outhouse is in place with electric and telco connections to it. The antenna, a 4 bay array lays on the ground waiting for a tower crew to install it on what is a very "busy" tower. My understanding is that studio will be built in the base lodge of the ski area shortly. It would seem that the owners, the Tesiero family, Cranesville Block Co. are wasting no time after the debacle with 1120 in St. Johnsville and with winter weather coming soon. Still no idea what type of a format it will have, but it would seem it would have to be a format that would have some appeal to a wide range of listeners given the sparse population in the area. It might be simulcast at least in part with their WCSS 1490, Amsterdam? I believe that by this station going on the air, it will give the last county in NY state (Hamilton) its first commercial radio station. North Country Public Radio has 3 non-commercial transmitters within the county in Speculator, Blue Mt. Lake and Long Lake.

There's no commercial station in Orleans County, along the Lake Ontario shore between Rochester and Niagara Falls. (There's a commercial allocation on 102.1, but the station operating there is noncommercial WJCA.)

If you get technical about it, there's also no commercial FM in Richmond, Kings or Bronx county. (WFAS-FM 103.9, licensed to Bronxville in Westchester County, has a CP that's built but not licensed in the Bronx, and commercial WQBU 92.7, while licensed to Garden City, Nassau County, transmits from just inside the Queens border, if memory serves.)
