WYYW LP

Is WYYW LP still broadcasting Me tv in analog from Boonville?

I was surprised to see a LP station that was still on the air that was affiliated with a network like me tv.

I know there are still quite a few religious, foreign language, home shopping and few community stations still broadcasting in analog.

According to the fcc it is still on with no plans to go digital.

I was hoping that someone could confirm for me that it was still on.

Thanks
Gbn

First, I can't reconcile the "imagination" of an LP that rebroadcasts the audio of a retrograde TV network. It must be "so-exciting" to hear the Brady Bunch in faux stereo! [<sarc ON]
Here's the problem with the current LPFM paradigm: "Corporate Radio" has successfully cut that service off above its knees. Really, WHY don't the current FM translator power/HAAT requirements apply to the LPFM service? Secondly, the LPFM menu is dominated by religious entities that merely turn-around a national bombardment of like-minded, but NOT LOCAL program services. A decade after its invention and authorization, the LPFM service has patently FAILED in its altruistic intention – likely because of "POLITICS".
SAD! :'(

He's talking about LPTV, not LPFM. LPTV stations have been around since the early 80's first with translator-style calls (e.g. W66AB), and later four-letter calls with the LP suffix.

OOPS, My "bad", Neil. Given this is a RADIO FORUM, I *assumed* [and you know what that can lead to]... :D
Still, I'll stand behind my assertations of the current LOW POWER FM RADIO service.

WYYW is very much still alive. There is a construction permit to take it digital on channel 20 (WAZE-DT's former allocated channel), but I don't know what their timetable is for building it out.

WTSN-LD, the main channel (36.1) is supposed to move down the dial to 15 at some point as well, but there again, no timetable. They get quite a bit of interference from WTWO, which is the reason for that move.

Thank you, that is what I wanted to know.

Does the station make it down to Owenboro?

I agree with you hipporadio about the low power fm situation.

That service could be used for much better purposes.

Sorry for the delay in my reply - but yes, it does reach Owensboro fairly well, at least if you've got a decent antenna. It does better than WAZE-LP (ch. 17) at any rate, despite 17's much higher ERP.

Thank you jnewkirk77, I am happy to hear that.

I might be doing some camping in southern Indiana/northern Kentucky, most likely in Owensboro.

I want to bring my trusty Coleman tv/radio/flashlight/rocket booster lol, and give it a try.

I really miss that little tiny black and white screen in my tent.

Memories ;-)

I used to pack a GPX 5" black & white TV/radio with me when we camped ... I've "graduated" to a 7" Axion LCD digital TV now, but doggone it if the reception isn't as good! (Surprise, surprise, huh? :-\) Nor does it have a radio, so I always pack my trusty RadioShack pocket radio ... it's good for listening to the Cardinals and whatever else catches my ear.

By the way, if you're camping near Owensboro, I highly recommend Diamond Lake. We have a lot of fun there ... always something to do if that's what you want, and this time of the year it's fairly quiet if that's your preference.

Diamond Lake is where we will probably go, I've read some good things about it. Thank You for confirming it for me!

You know I have looked into the portable DTV'S, the cheapest one I've seen is $139.00 for a brand I have not heard of before, I can't recall the name.

Not something I am willing to drop over 100 bucks on.

Maybe $30 or $40 I'd try it.

Just like you said the reception is not very good on a lot of the new portables, from reviews I've read.

At least there are a few AM's in that area that still play music, I will like that.

I am one of the very few in my age group(mid 30's) that enjoys the sound of a good AM station, over a compressed mp3 ;)

Thank you again for the help!

It's my pleasure. Hey, if you're looking at those little DTVs, check out RadioShack. They had some good deals on a few last time I was in there (clearance) under $30. Might be worth a shot.

And I FULLY agree with you on AM!

BTW, a little update on WYYW - they shut off the analog yesterday and are now digital on channel 20.1. They sneaked up on me!
