WZAT - How are they doing?

I'm just curious to see how WZAT is doing with the sports format. I keep having that reoccurring dream that I will wake up in Toombs county and turn on the radio to 102.1 and will hear the old alternative format.

Awaiting someone to tell me to keep dreaming.... :-(

First, they'd have to fix their antenna.

That's one reason I bet they did flip to sports. The most powerful FM in the market, crippled by ownership that won't repair it's antenna. Flip it to mono & run sports on it. Fixed!

I am curious to hear what you think is wrong with the antenna?

In Toombs County, Z102 signal has not been an issue. It's in mono but I think that has been established and understood.

WIXV has had horrible reception over the past five years. Some friends of mine were all discussing this one afternoon and we all remembered listening to WIXV growing up and in the 90s but its almost not even audible. It picks up better from about Lyons points east but Vidalia doesn't really get it anymore. I'm not too terribly upset though because WIXV appears to have the same 250 set songs they have played for the past 10 years and the DJ's have absolutely no personality. Don Scott sounds like a robot... "Only on the Rock of Savannah". Even their facebook status updates end with that little blurb. Seriously, get some personality!

It's my understanding a few years back, the antenna took a lightning strike that reduced its output by a significant amount. Never heard that it was fixed....and you couldn't tell by the audio chain that it had been fixed. Shortly thereafter, it went mono & sports. Fin.

Agree with your take on Don Scott. He has this 80's top 40'esque voice that is so out of place on a classics-heavy rock station.

I'd say 95 gets out better to the west than most Savannah stations, as least up along I-16.

....Back to the topic of "how they're doing"....well, in the just released and published ratings, according to what I saw, they have soared to ..... 0.8 total persons, total week! That's LESS....yes less than a 1 share with that big old mono signal covering a ton of potential listeners who apparently just don't care.....

G, the antenna was replaced within a month after the lightning strike with a new Dielectric 12 bay antenna. The decision to switch to sports came a year or so later.

0.8???? You have got to be kidding me!!! What a waste of a signal. Has Cumulus lost their ever lovin' mind? Either I'm missing a point here (sorry, don't know much about sports radio) or Cumulus forgot they had a few stations in Savannah, Georgia.

@Upstate: The personalities are BORING. Hell, they would be better with no live DJs. I can sit in a car and mock the Djs (especially Don Scott). I just think the station is tired. If you are going to be classic rock, you have lots of years to cover and a lot of great classic rock music. Their playlist is narrow and to make it all of the more aggravating, the narrow playlist has remained the same for the better of 8 years now and they are promoting concerts for bands they don't even touch. They are currently giving away tickets for Depeche Mode? Excuse me? Since when did 95 play new wave alternative?

Regarding the signal, 95 normally goes out along 16 between the Soperton and Dublin exits. I can pull E93 a little further. In Vidalia, 95 is blocked from what appears to be interference from the local station. Just seems it has been worse through the course of the last several years. WJCL comes in the best here in Vidalia and so does WZAT.
