WZBR cancelled

Radio Insight reports WZBR 1410 Dedham and its Medford based translator have been cancelled after being silent or "operating with unauthorized facilities" for over one year. Owner Alex Langer had passed on just over a year ago

I was never close enough to hear the temporary low power AM station. Here in Somerville I did hear the Medford 98.1 FM translator come back on briefly playing jazz maybe just over a month ago, but not for long.

However, the late Langer's stations in metro-west, 650 AM HD only WSRO Ashland and FM analog translator 102.1 W271CU Framingham are still on playing classical music since they resumed broadcasting around a couple of months ago.

WDJM in Framingham at Framingham State went silent on June 30, it was noted on the successor to the boston-radio-interest mailing list. I saw online, I believe on the site of the school's paper, that they decided to shut off last year for one year to concentrate on building a good streaming site and perhaps may turn in the license.

It was said their longtime engineer Sid Schweiger is retiring, their antenna or transmitter was not in the best of shape, and they felt their signal wasn't all that great so
they may stick to being online. This would save them money and they wouldn't have to
deal with FCC regulations (or having a signal
to maintain). They may not return.
About 10 yrs ago or so Wellesley College's WZLY was considering selling their FM signal
so they could just be online, similar reasons--all of 7 watts. No takers so may still be on air.
Being online only means no worries about
profanities in songs, etc

The sound of silence is also, for now, on WPLM 1390 as it went off in Jan. after "part of its transmitter burned out" (Wikipedia). Will see when they return to air (has been known to do business news, or a simulcast of WPLM-FM).
Noticed it was off today, so looked up.

WPLM has not run business news in years, maybe as many as 10. When it's been on the air in the last number of years it's just been simulcasting the FM.
